Eyup Bantams,

Today, eventually, I finally got a bit of time to look at that lovely 1968 D14 with the heavy duty forks I bought last summer that hasn't run since 2003.

It starts up (hot and/or cold), ticks over, revs up and runs absolutely fantastic.

I thrashed it up and down the lane a few times and it goes great.

It pulls and accelerates really well through all 5 gears - the best Bantam I've ever riden - I was actually impressed.

Got a sore bottom now though because I couldn't be bothered to put the seat back on, just went bare back and sat on the frame.

May take it for an outing at the National Rally with the old D1 later this year - will you be there?

Thought I'd put it up on here just in case anybody is interested as nobody in our house gives a F**K!

Ride safe.

A genuine happy post. If you are giving a F it might as well be bareback. ban_gif

Ban who, BB or ZZ? wink

I'll let you both off, especially as BB has found a 5 speed Bantam, but be aware....

G'Day ZZ,

Good to see you on the Yorkshire section.

How refreshing that somebody can appreciate "a genuine happy post".

It was a genuinely very happy post after I had successfully managed to get this bike running again after so long off the road - as you could tell.

Thankfully the moderator has seen fit to allow us to communicate our love of the old Bantam across the globe.

I remember reading an article in an old magazine years ago and some old bloke on a D1 was quoted saying "If you ride a Bantam you're my friend".....

I'm visiting family in Melbourne later this year so I may nip across and treat you to a few Barnsley style tinnys.

Please let me know if you want anything bringing over.

Ride safe old pal!

Yes Andrew, sometimes we get caught up too much in the fixit stage to really appreciate the "it lives" feeling when we ride the mighty beast. For a lot of people it is more of a relief than pure joy. I do appreciate your posts, we seem to have a similar sense of humour and love of irony mixed with the double entendre. Sure hope the Coco man does not understand French. fishing_gif

Very nice offer to bring some stuff over. In your photo I am not sure if that is you or your assistant but if you manage to dismantle a Vincent twin and fit it into carry on luggage I would be interested. Just so you don't walk lopsided and draw attention to yourself a Brough in the other side will do. Parts supply is surprisingly good now if you have a computer. I just bought some Tatran parts from Warsaw, 8 days and just 8 euro freight, fantastic. Coco, not sure if euro is a swear word but just in case, euro euro euro whistle

Oh, and Melbourne is around 700 km from here, not far in OZ terms but a bit of a trip for people crammed on a little Island. A lot of locals measure travel by how many tinnys you drink along the way. cheers I reckon about 20 should get you here as long as you just take small sips. I can send a list of public toilets along the way if you wish.

 Stay happy

ZZ (and anyone else) - I will happily accept all the euros you can send. smile

I do understand French, but I don't like to see Anglo Saxon terms used on the Forum, even in jest. read-manual

Both of you, keep enjoying your bikes and humorous posts - just keep within the rules, eh? thanks_gif

Hello ZZ,

Good to hear from you again.

Unfortunately my supply of Vincent's and Brough's has run out after cannibalizing bits off them all to get these Bantams going.

Hello Coco,

I like to think I do keep within the "rules" - I always self censor any "naughty" words and I only add them for humorous effect.

I did post this twice, one in the General Discussion and the Yorkshire Style version in the Yorkshire Section with a couple of words altered for the local lads.

I do not intend to offend anybody, and hope I do not, I think we are just having a laugh.

For whatever reason I think I just irritate you personally rather than offend anybody.

As my old Nan used to say: -

"There's swearing and there's swearing AT somebody - two completely different things".

I have never sworn at anybody on here - but others have sworn at me - and you know who that was

Apology accepted.

As that old bloke said - "if you ride a Bantam you're my friend"

Nothing! Too cold for riding so stayed indoors and started adding up the cost of my D1 resto.

Just hope when I'm gone that my wife doesn't sell it for what I told her it cost 😊

Good evening Roy,

Thought you'd been out on the cafe racer?

Don't talk about it being too cold, they'll think you're going soft!

Hi Andrew, that was the day before when it was at least 1 deg.warmer! I'm resisting the comment about me going soft, you keep inviting censorship from big brother lol
