Good morning young Digby,

What you doing with the AJS?

I'm looking for another Bantam with a current MOT for less than £100.

A mate of mine says he knows a lad who has two for that kind of money and is willing to do a buy one get one free in his January Sale.

Do you want to go halves and have one each?

Greetings from sunny Leeds,

Hi Andrew how the devil are you? The AJS is up for sale on Evilbay nice bike but not for me,the two Bantams you speak of sound very interesting but far too much Money for me a poor retired OAP with a wife and sense of humour to support!

I am also looking for a good cobbler to repair my fake crocs, holes in right shoe from kicking the sh?t out of my bikes when they refuse to start,I will do him a swap for repairs with two sets of dentures (not matching numbers) unused since 1981 when my Granny passed on,they are becoming a collectors item now if you believe what you read on Twitbook.

Let me know what you're up to,or what you would like to get up to

Cheers Digby

Hi Digby,

Nice looking AJS, can you tell me the route for the clutch cable? On mine someone has drilled a hole in the gearbox cover plate and I know that's not right!

thanks, and hope that project arrived soon!

Hi Stuart,

the gearbox cover plate should have a V shaped notch cut out at the corner on the left side ( not the gear lever side) this allows the clutch cable to JUST feed through under the cover and into the hole to the actuating arm,the clutch pulls easily as long as no one has fitted a "short" cable,if they have then the bends will be too tight making a very heavy lever.

Hope that helps,

Digby

Well that was quick! Just been to North Wales to buy my next project a 1962 D1 in need of total restoration. There is a poignant story behind this bike which I will share when resto is complete.

Lots of parts needed so if you have anything hiding in the shed/garage please let me know.

Cheers Digby

Did you buy the bike off Ria ?

Was looking at that one myself but TBH if it is the same bike it needs a lot of time and parts and not for the faint hearted , most probably too much for my limited skills .

Keep us posted on progress in the Resto Section

Cheers

Yes that's the one! you are right, this will be a challenging restoration but I will get there eventually if I can find all the missing parts, luckily I have a good friend who has an awesome collection of bantams and spares so he may be able to help, fingers crossed.

Well Digby, I thought you'd be hankering after a virago as a challenge. Something familiar, but a bit of a challenge as well. Something where you might know what the finished item should do.

It just so happens, I do. At the moment it's a parts rack for the MZ and I think it's found it's level in life.
