Hello, Scottish members. It's nearly a year since the last post in this section which pretty much closed down the Scottish area branch. I enquired recently of the club what was happening with the Scottish branch and the answer was - nothing. nowt. nada. Apparently there had been very little curiosity from Scottish members. So....after talks with Iain in charge of Area business, I've agreed to take on the Scottish Area rep's post for a period of consultation. Hopefully members will put forward ideas as to what they would like to see happen with the Scottish area.... Obviously we're not going to be having a monthly meeting, as it's geographically impractical for Dod in Dumfries to be meeting Tam fae Thurso in a wee boozer near Pitlochry every couple of weeks. Perhaps folk are happy enough to have no functioning area here - if so that's ok too, im sure.

So really I'm just trying to open up an online discussion about what YOU want from your area - if anything.

I'm a member of a couple of other owners clubs - Norton, Triumph and Ariel and, apart from Ariel, they're pretty pathetic compared to the Bantam Club which offers a vast amount of info. Perhaps you're happy with a purely online presence; perhaps you'd like to be able to contact another member close to you to see "in the flesh" how his working D1 magneto/points are set up.......

So please share any thoughts, suggestions, recommendations etc etc etc with the rest of us here and we can ascertain if there is any desire to have a working Area Branch again?

I suggest we hold the debate here on this Topic thread but feel free to PM me with any issues.

Cheers

Stewart

Well done on taking up the post and good luck! I spent two years as area rep for Kent, and I know how tricky it is to organise things that suit people. We did ride outs, monthly meetings and stands at shows.

Ride outs were popular with some members who had a working Bantam and were near the area of the ride out. Monthly meetings were sometimes well attended with a maximum of 15 at one meeting, but some were only attended by me and my wife. As far as attending shows goes, we still do them. Our current area rep decides which shows he wants to go to and advertises them. We have several members who come to one or more, and it’s a great opportunity to have a chat and compare notes.

Good luck, I hope you work out a program that works in Scotland!

Current bikes......1958 D5, a 77 Suzuki GT250 and a 77 Honda CB125S. I have a 74 Kawasaki S3 400 and a B175 waiting for restoration. A 1980 Honda CB400N waiting for MOT.  Everyday ride is a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster.

Hi stoo, I'm new to bantams and across in Fife. Currently getting a neglected d7 running again and we'll see where we go from there. Many members in Scotland? Cheers

Hi Gogs! Congratulations A: On your new Bantam B: on being in th Kingdom of Fife and C: on being the first response to the "revitalised" Scottish Branch. I actually don't know how many members are active in Scotland due to "privacy" DPRG or GPRD or whatever it's called.... I only have details of the "opted-in" members who share their details. At present there are about 40 of those, spread from Lewis to Galloway. There's a couple in Fife, I think. Which part are you in? I'm originally from Newport myself, but living in Glasgow now. So is this your first bantam? As you'll have discovered, most spares have to come from down south. But most stuff is still available. You'll have great fun with it anyway.

Cheers
