Hi all I have owned a 1959 Triumph Tigress Scooter since I was 12 (58 now).

It's been stored in my father's workshop and I plan to strip and re-build.

It has the single 175cc engine and the Big end taps ever since I've owned it.

Will a D1 bantum crankshaft fit?

Does anyone know?

Hi Snapon.

The stroke is the same on all Bantam models, but you`d have problems adapting the small-end and anyhow the D1 rod isn`t strong enough for the 175.

Also the keyway for the c/b cam on the D1/D3 125s is cut in a different position than the D7 175cc.

Cheaper to locate a replacement D7 crank.I bought one off a member on here a few years back.

If it is the big end won't one of Rex Caunt's specials go in?

None of the part numbers in the Sunbeam B1 (BSA's Tigress equivalent) parts books match and the complete crank doesn't look the same as a D7. However, the con rod/big end assembly part Number is given as 90-1454 (superseded by 90-1619 as are all D5, D7, D10, D14 numbers), 90-1454 is also shown in some D7 catalogues. Rex Caunt also uses that number as a reference for his con rod/big end kit so there is a good chance one of those could be fitted.

I'm not a complete idiot ............................................ some parts are missing.

Hi there - I too have a Tigress - in about 20 boxes - just about to start a renovation.

Cant help with your query but can I ask you a question..... Do you know if frame and engine numbers were matching in any way or where I can find any dating info without going via the VMSC - all I want to do at this moment is date mine rather than get hold of a dating certificate from the club. Cheers B

Sorry to respond to an ancient thread, but I'm also trying to assemble a 175 scooter engine, and am searching for spares, particularly clutch parts - dont suppose you have any leads? TIA, Tony

None of these tigress people have been on the Forum for over a year now, Tony. Probably scooted off on their machines by now...... The thread is likely dead.
