Thought some may be interested in a restoration I did 5 years ago.

I was never really keen on the bathtub version, but colleague at work offered it.

It had been his Uncles, but when colleague and his Dad had tried to start it caught fire.

They stripped it but never got around to fixing.

Sounds familiar 🙂

This is how it looked when I bought it2013_0103triumph21b40056.JPG

Looking forwards to seeing the finished pictures. My other bike is a 58 3ta with the bath tub removed. Strangely enough mine also had a fire in its history and I still have the old heat damaged head. Can't beat the noise of an old twin.

As it is a 350 it should be light metallic Blue and the 500 was Maroon.

I got all the painted parts blasted and Black parts powder coated.

Cleaned off rust from fixings and got them zinc plated.

Trial fit of bathtub panels before painting

I do like getting back the powder coated parts but can take time to get rid of the grit from threads etc.

The head had a broken fin.

The Lucas combined ign and light switch is fiddly. I see Lucas have started to remanufacture them2013_0422tri3ta0017.JPG2013_0720restored0014.JPG2013_0720restored0043.JPG2013_0720restored0044.JPG2013_0720restored0045.JPG

I made up a piece of ally for the fin and got it welded in.

Took some time filing to get profile right and blasted again when finished

Enjoying your project thank you and that little ally welding job was spot on I think. My C15 has a similar bit missing, someone a bit too handy with a plug spanner perhaps, on mine.

Four now on the road and at least several in bits.

Great to see such a restoration, certainly  a lot of time and dedication well spent. That head fin repair is very interesting.

Thanks for sharing the photos. Big thumbs upbravo

I fitted a single output coil but lots of leakage from the distributor cap  so changed to a dual output wasted spark system ie both plugs fire at same time but only the one on compression stroke ignites mixture

Runs and starts well

I also fitted a canister type oil filter to scavenge return feed.

Finished 🙂

Lovely job, Martin! ☺ Ive got a 5Ta bathtub that Im getting back up to scratch. I started with a complete bike so don't have to go to the lengths that you have, so Im tryin to leave it as is as much as i can for now. Gonna strip the engine down for investigation after xmas. In the meantime, im getting a festive treat off me old mum - a pair of chrome side scroll badges ☺ Ive checked online and some look a bit dodgy - theres a lot of crap repros out there 😨 Your badges look great. Got a recommendation for a supplier?

Cheers, Stewart

Thanks, they do become a bit of a labour of love as spent over £5k doing it. Quality of parts varies considerably so tried to go for quaility over cost Tank badges were from Tri-Supply Honiton and in 2012 they were £49 plus vat and I painted them by hand using Humbrol model paint
