Hi All.

Just thought I would post a couple of pictures of my latest aquisition. It's a Honda Superdream 400.

I bought it back in May and intended to get it on the road a few weeks later, but like most restorations it has taken me a lot longer than intended and cost a lot more than I expected.

It passed the MOT yesterday, so my plan is to tax it and ride it around for a while, then strip it and get all the cosmetics sorted.

More pictures of the restore to follow sometime. I hope.

A great looking bike Mike, are those the comstar wheels?, have they alloy rims with tubeless tyres, or steel rims?

Hi Timbo.

Yes they are Comstar wheels and alloy. Mine is a 1978 model and has tubed tyres, the later ones had tubeless.

I had always wanted a Honda many years ago and after 43 years I bought one.

I had the 250cc version-in about 1984-it had good handling features but the engine was not up to the weight of the cycle parts-the 400cc should be a good machine.I scrapped mine as the cost of a new exhaust system was greater than the value of the bike!

Hi Jarrovian.

Funny you should mention the cost of the exhaust. Mine has a Motad 2 into 1 system. I intend to convert it back to the original 2 into 2. Even using pattern silencers and pipes the cost is going to be very high and finding a good used collector box will be a challenge. As far as I know a new collector box for a Superdream is unavailable.

I have only ridden it for about 10 miles so far but it seems really nice to ride. Comparing it with my D14 Bantam it seems to have endless pulling power uphill.

Mike.

Well Mike-hen's teeth comes to mind-quite appropriate considering the site!  but even with the Superdream in its' heyday  used exhaust parts were not to be found however hard I tried-but who knows,if there is a demand someone out there may be fabricating collector boxes. Hope you have more luck than I did!

Just to let you know, people are now using those hondas to build into cafe racers, so possibly some original exhausts may turn up

on ebay soon?

Heres a link to a cafe racer site
