Hello all,

I have recently purchased a 150cc, 0D3 Bantam Major in very good condition, except that the back wheel seems to be out of line and rubs on the left hand side of the rear mudguard. Hopefully not too difficult to sort out once I get an exploded layout of the rear wheel.

I also have a BSA Ariel3 and a Suzuki VZ800.

Hello Charlie, from the land of A.E. Houseman. Nice collection of bikes you have. I have an unfulfilled craving for an Ariel3! Hopefully we can help to get you roaring through those blue remembered hills on your Bantam. Often previous owners put the washers/spacers etc back in an "unconventional" way. Have a look ** Please log in to view ** for exploded rear wheel views which might help you deduce what is going on.

You will find just about everything you could ever want on the Forum via the FAQs and technical sections;  ** Please log in to view **

Have a really good nose around the forum and enjoy yourself. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Good Luck!

All the best,

Stewart

Hello and welcome, are you "On Wenlock Edge"? wink

There are several D3 restoration topics in the restorations section, including ** Please log in to view ** (ahem...). I doubt any link to Photobucket will work now, but I have plenty of pictures I can give you access to, to save you going around the Wrekin. rofl

roflroflYes, it's true. I actually bought an Ariel 3 a couple of years back for pennies off eBay but upon collection the frame was totally goosed so the poor little blighter had to be put out of it's misery 🙁  I've got a pathological attraction for daft machinery, so they fit the bill  (No offence, Charlie) I'd also sell my soul for a Flying Flea or a Corgi 🙂

Thankyou all for the welcome.

I have to gain some knowledge about this bike so I will be posting shortly to try and sort out why the back wheel is rubbing.

Nice bike. If it's any help, here's mine on collection back in 2013. I can't access any other more helpful ones just now.

That is a lovely looking bike, Charlie. VERY nice indeed! Once you get that rear wheel sorted , you've got yourself a little gem there 🙂 👍

This looks like a great start, for the rear wheel I see it has a 19x3.00, standard should be 19x2.75, it's not so much of a problem, I run a 3.00 tyre on my D1, but it reduces clearance, so as said basic checks first. Good luck with it.

Hi Cocorio, no not on Wenlock Edge, down the scraggy end South of Bridgnorth.

I have enjoyed riding the Ariel3, its a pretty scary ride and not for the faint hearted but it has given me a strong urge to get back on a british (2-wheeled) bike after a break of 40 plus years and a bantam is a good start, I think.

I will try and put some pictures of the problem I have with the wheel on here shortly. I have to find out where I am supposed to post first as I dont want to put it in the wrong place.  I still don't know how to get into the members area.

Every day is a school day.

Its a shame you had not kept the Ariel3 bits Stoo63. I have a frame, with a registered frame number, and matching engine just waiting for the other parts to be married.

They are starting to fetch a bit of money now. They are certainly an interesting ride.

Hi Sunny,

I have lined the wheels up with a long straight board and they seem fine, unless I am due a visit to Specsavers

Either the wheel spindle mounted components are wrong or the frame may be out of position. Looking from the back the mudguard seems ok,

I will take some pictures and start a post on the forum as soon as I get chance. Thanks for the help

Thankyou rhi010,

If I change the rear tyre and sort my problem I will be ordering one very soon.

You could start your ' proper' topic in this section. It helps if all your posts on your particular bike are in one place, so you / others can see progress or look back / search for similar problems. As for the rear mudguard, mine has a 2.75 tyre, on the chain guard side the mudguard has a recess to accomodate the chain guard, with a gap of about 1cm between tyre and mudguard, the other side has a gap of around 2cm and the guard is not recessed.

Suggest you ** Please log in to view ** to BSA Service Sheets and download what you need. I find many of the sites I have bookmarked over the years have lapsed, with the subsequent loss of info.

I may also have other info which I've recently 'recovered' to my cloud.  index.png

BTW - you don't have access to the Members Area as you are a Forum member, NOT a Club Member.
