Hello all,

Firstly I must say that I am new to the club and posting on threads such as this.

I've decided to resurrect my D1 plunger project which I started some 35 years ago. Back then, with the help of a BSA fanatic who sold me the machine, I managed to get my D1 painted and together however the electrics beat me. As a younger man I then moved to 'other' things.

I now have a little time on my hands so my D1 is now centre stage in my garage.

Having read many threads you have helped already with brake adjustment, tyres etc. It was the helpful and informative nature the posts that made me join the club and get involved in the Bantam world.

Now that I know I have, with the Dating Officers help, a 1960 machine which was delivered very locally to where I live, I would like to ask a question which I see has been the topic of previous discussions however I have a slight twist.

I now realsie that I have the wrong headlight shell and I would like to know which style I should have please. I also attached a pic of the one that I have ... I hope. Any ideas what machine it belongs to?

Ah yes. I also have to recover my D shape speedo, amongst many other jobs (including electrics when I'm brave enough) which has a home made needle. Is there a source for new/old/repo needles?

Thanks in advance

There is nothing to be afraid of with the wiring harnes all you need to do is look on your generator and find which spec you have and sort out your head lamp. I think you need the large switch type but there will be some one who knows for definite will come on and tell you . Once you have done that all you need is diagram to suit and coloured wire I make mine and suspect a lot of others do to .

Hi Andrew and welcome to the Club. Electrics are probably the most common topic on the Forum. Everyone seems to have had issues. Have a look at online pics of your bike to check the headlamp bowl. The speedo needles are very rare. Often difficult to prise off they break easily and replacements are VERY rare.

You will find just about everything you could ever want on the Forum via the FAQs and technical sections;  ** Please log in to view **

Good luck with your project - looking forward to seeing your progress

All the best,

Stewart

Thanks Stewart. I will take your advice and have a look at Google. Once I know what I'm looking for I will keep an eye on a well known auction website. Who knows we may have autojumbles before the year is out. I did see a repro needle company in the USA wanting $17 plus P&P for a needle. Seemed a bit much to me.

Regards

Andrew

Yeah that's a bit steep, Andrew. I'm on the look out myself for some and haven't found any suitable alternatives ....so far. If I  find a solution, I'll give you a shout!
