Hi all , just posting to say hello. I have a D14 , which I have owned since 1989 , but it's been off the road since 1992. Big list of parts on order, and gradually fitting as they come in. Currently stumped by my Ignition cam ( original was completely rusted ) the new one arrived and I was assuming ( hoping ) I could remove the circlip off the old cam to re-use the retaining screw. Is that possible or are they ( circlip and screw) just replaced usually? Â

Hi Kevin, Welcome to the forum, The circlip is only for pulling the cam off the taper, so if it does'nt fly out when you pull the cam off the taper it will be fine. It would be nice to see a few more members around the Medway town's I,m in Wigmore so might see you sometime there is another member over in Walderslade .

Hi Thanks for the feedback everyone
Chippy
I got the old Cam off ok , but am wondering are the old screw & circlip reusable ( if so , any tips on how to get the circlip off the old cam ) or do I just get replacements.Â
Throttle cable and Kickstart spring just arrived in the post , so i have something to get on with nowÂ

Hi Kevin.
Welcome. As said previously, I live in Walderslade. As a child i lived in Cliffe road in strood but moved away in 1976 when I got married.
It would be a good idea to save the circlip from the cam if you can. I haven't seen any replacements for sale. My D14 has that circlip missing, it makes removing the cam difficult, I did try to buy a replacement circlip the last time a rebuilt the engine but ordered the wrong size and didn't bother after that.

Hi Kevin, I must confess I have never tried to remove one of those circlip's but by fitting the cam back on the taper loosely so that it is held steady, with something small and sharp it should be possible to get behind the clip, or if you have a vice with a couple of pieces of aluminium in the jaws hold the screw, then you can fight the clip while it's being held steady.
