Hi, I may have a few questions  as I am ready to start work on a Bantam Silver - it is a one owner from new, and was supplied by Ingles of Derby in 1966, last tax disc says March 70 and it has a little over 10,000 miles on the clock, and must of been used for commuting as it has black BSA leg guards - I rebuilt the engine for the original owners grand daughter in around 1997, she was on the primary school PTA where my eldest son attended and at the time I had 8 bikes, and lived opposite the school - her brother started to restore it and disintegrated the little end trying to get it running - I repaired, re fitted and ran the engine and I think it has sat ever since, although it is in more pieces than when I last saw it, and I don’t remember the tank being all over blue either - don’t see much missing and it has got good compression and is still free - I am to get it running and assembled, they are probably going to sell it ?

.... I grew up around bikes and I am not new to Bantams, I had a 1963 175 D7 when I was 12 years old, having learnt to ride on an OSSA 250 MAR that belonged to one of my Dads apprentices when 10 or 11 years old, could not get on with my Dads Greeves Scottish, but his Montesa was better !

Here is the Bantam,

and its engine went into this Sprite, I have a feeling that must of been the day we got it with a clapped out motor that may of been a 125 or 150 ?

the Sprite was much more rideable when it gained a 125 Honda engine in the late 70s

.... but it kept the Bushman front pipe !

.... interestingly  also, my bike bench must of seen a fair amount of Bantam action as it came from a GPO workshop sale in the mid 70s

All together, only 4 pieces missing - 1 outer rear spindle nut, throttle cable, battery and centre stand spring.

Looking good

Are you leaving it as an oily rag original?

I like the originality

I am to get it running and assembled, they are probably going to sell it

I think that means it's job done for now and on to ebay or somewhere for an eager beaver.

Are you leaving it as an oily rag original?

.... if it were mine, probably yes - it is a shame that he grandson of the original owner painted the tank though, (it was him that broke the engine in the nineties) but it's only hobby paint I think as a managed to rub some of it off to reveal the edge of the original silver panel.

have you got the bug...the Bantam bug that is,

.... we shall see, if I was to have one I have I might go earlier, D1 - D3 maybe ?
