My D1 tank has a split seam at the front caused by yours truly bending the tab to make it fit, so I’ve taken it off to repair and had a play with some potential replacement tanks from projects still in work, decided to go with the RH filler tank in the end as it came off a field bike recently and I know it holds fuel, plus when using the side stand a rh filler is better. the d3 tank is mint, off my 54 comp replica bought last year but hasn’t been lined against corrosion yet so I decided not to use it

the c10L tank uses same front mounts but would need a separate rear bracket or extension to be made up and the seat / mount changing - might make the basis of an interesting cafe racer using a d10 / hump seat what do you think.

Using the c10L tank makes the bike look and feel larger, could be good for taller riders

TBH, Bill, I don't think the C10 tank suits the lines of a Bantam. That aside, I wonder why you intend to line a perfectly good tank before using it? There are probably more complaints about tank linings and their efficacy and proof against ethanol than there are about ethanol damage to steel tanks. My D3 tank from 1956 is still unlined and unrusted. I do try to drain it when not used, though - but it has lasted many years before my ownership!

I think the C11 tank suits it well, patina is just right as well.

I think a single seat would be better though, with an extension similar to the competition type but allowing to move backwards

I quite like the idea of having a 2.5 gallon tank and a 1954 c10L shares a lot of parts with a d3 bantam major - rear frame, front forks and rear wheel

cafe racer look perhaps

I’m another that thinks there’s no point lining a tank. At best, it’s a temporary bodge to get you out of trouble. If the tank is unsound, then lining it only kicks the can down the road and sooner or later it’ll start leaking again. If, however, the tank is ok, then lining it achieves nothing beyond storing up problems for later on. If a tank is rusty inside, and it’s causing issues, then either electrolysis or filling it full of vinegar for a week (or a proprietary rust dissolving agent) is a much better bet. Both my bikes tanks are unlined and, when empty, you can still see the discolouration where they were originally welded together.

I really do like the cafe racer C10, when I was 15/16yrs old I ‘chopped’ my C10, well it was 1968/9embarassed

strangely enough I put a bantam tank on it ?

regards Chris
