In Gloucestershire we seem to be devoid of any 'bodily contact'.  Are there any members living locally who might accede to meeting up once in a while to chat 'everything Bantam' ?

It's seemingly very lonely here - I might have to move to Essex !!

Hi Guys,  Yep, I've noticed too....most of the 'active' members seem to be based around the S.E. corner of the Isle stretching up to and around Derbyshire.  I have looked at the members list and there is a smattering of members here but they appear to not want to come out and 'play'.  I was hopeing that someone would start up a chapter, strut call it what you will, for this area but there are no takers.  I suppose it will be me then who organises a monthly meet.......then I can 'attend' and talk to myself all night long.  Much the same as normal !!

Whats it like in France Cocorico ?  I would imagine it must be the same for you ?

I've just had a vision....of Nick, Cocorico and I plus other other lonely heart Bantameers having a monthly chat using the SKYPE conference call all drinking beer.  Excellent.  Not that I am implying you guys are 'lonely hearts' or anything.......more..sympathetic to the cause sort of ?

Cheers (hic)

The idea of riding out on a Bantamthon with other members is splendid.  If it is good to have a goal.....then this will be mine !

.. but I'm not much of a group rider, so I don't miss that sort of thing. There are plenty of 'Harley' riders groups about, and classic ride outs most summer weekends if that's your thing. There's even a museum of French racing cars and other interesting vehicles a few km from here.

Hi There. Been reading these posts and the other ones on the Surrey Area Rep thread. Seems to me that there are Bantam

Club members around the Country who arnt aware of a Branch in their area. All the Branches are listed in the Banter. If there

is one near you, go and join in. You will get a great welcome from the members. If there is no Branch in your area, why not

set up a Branch, I can help you with this. All you need to do is contact me and i can give you all the info. My details will be in

the June Banter................Mark.  Area Rep Coordinator.

I'd like to meet up and have ride outs with other bantam folk in my area, but I doubt there's a rep. for Northamptonshire.

Nearby Bucks and Oxon I imagine are the same, Warwickshire to my Westward is further to travel.

It might be worth joining just to have regular meet ups etc, but I doubt I'd find any such within forty or fifty miles?

That's a bit too much if I'm looking at a fifty or hundred miler once I got there! Looked at site map and I appear to be in the middle of a big empty members area.

Four now on the road and at least several in bits.

There seems to be a lot of interest in people wanting to meet up in areas where there are no Area Reps , if that is the case why not take the lead and talk to Mark Waller our newly elected Area Reps Co-Ordinator to get an idea on how to start up a branch in your area?.

Some very interesting entries to this thread while I have been away over the weekend.  If I still feel the same way after the June publication of 'Banter', Mark can expect to hear from me since I would like to occasionally meet up with other Bantameers and generally set up a local 'click' where we can seek advice and stuff.  On another note, Mags 1 mentioned the prospect of a 50 mile ride or so just to get there, then being faced with another longish ride out with others.  I totally agree with him.  Personally, I seem to only use my Bantam for getting from A to B for specific purpose.  I have tried the VMCC route (scuse pun) where the Cotswolds were used as a playground to thrash about from village to village.  All very nice and scenic but it just didn't seem to suit me.  There seemed to be no real 'purpose' to it - I can do this any day of the week.  Clearly I am in a minority because the ride-outs are very popular.  If this sort of thing is expected by an 'Area Rep', then I'm probably not the person to take on the role.  Even so, I do want to talk to other Bantam owners and I do want to look at other Bantams and I think it would be nice to attend Bantam and/or other motorcycle events by riding with someone else or in a group.  I have just returned from Southampton (by car) and witnessed umpteen groups of riders loaded up with full panniers on their way to some event or other rather than just out for a 'jolly'.

I have never been to a motorcycle rally before.  Next weekend I hope to ride the 97 miles to Market harborough to the BSA OC rally and it would have been far nicer I think to be riding with someone else.  Maybe I'll know better after I return, if I want to persue this.  A tempermental D14, the weather and a dodgy back in an aged frame will all I am sure come into the equasion.

Watch this space.

Very well put dm, but the sheer joy of sharing good and bad bantam type experiences of both bike and rides etc can only be experienced with like minded individuals I believe.

There is a VMCC "chapter" a few miles from me and I have thought about joining them, need to make my mind up before all the good riding weather has gone!

Hi there again. If any of you can get to the BSAOC rally at the weekend at Market Harborough, come and have a conversation with me. I will be there from the Friday with my Bantam. I can give you all the info about the Branches and how to set one up. I expect to see one or two of you...............Mark.

It is quite encouraging to read that members are enquiring about the role of the Area Rep and what it may or not entail, as Mark (Area Reps Co-Ordinator) mentioned if you are attending the event at Market Harborough he will be there to chat and help anyone interested in setting up a branch of our Club in your locality.

I run the South Derbyshire and Nottingham Branch and have been doing this for three years in September and found it relatively straight forward to set up with some help and advice from others in the Club. If you decide to go ahead you can set the agenda of the Branch to suit you and how many people attend the meetings, letting it grow over time and finding out what the members want in terms of activity.

Meeting up on the last Tuesday of the month works well for us, luckily we sourced a very bike friendly pub and landlady who looks after us, our calendar of events (see South Derbyshire and Nottingham Area Reps section) is fairly varied with some natter nights in the colder months and some ride outs as it gets warmer. If you fancy having a go at getting things going near you then have a go like I did a few years ago although with a bit of trepidation (it soon goes) as things start to get going and you get members turning up on a regular basis. As the Branch develops I found that members were volunteering to help do ride outs, talks (with a little persuasion) and also bringing along bike bits and pieces they had repaired / chromed or sprayed (without any persuasion), we even had an engine (clean) on the pub table one evening for discussion.

Go for it - it really is quite rewarding once it gets going and if you ask there is plenty of help and advice in the Club.
