Interesting item on eBay.

Makes you wonder, given the uncertainty about paint codes, how well this touch up matched.

On the subject of Bushfire Orange ......... A few years back I tried to find a match for a Bushman and ended up with  a can of something a bit wishy-washy a Ford Capri colour that looked OK In the workshop but more like baby poo in the sunlight.

I then heard an interesting story about Bushfire Orange from an old BSA employee .......he said that they ( BSA management ) had a look in the paint stores at Armoury Road and found a leftover batch of yellow paint from the AA contract and leftover Red paint from the GPO contract. These were mixed up 50:50 and hence Bushfire Orange which as you all know went onto the Bushman, the B44 and possibly some other bikes. Makes so much economic sense that it has to be true !!!

Rupert Ratio also bears this out in his excellent book about Unit Singles, Vol 2 ....... it explains a lot about BSA colours.

Its not worth getting too hung up on colours, where old motorcycles are concerned,  its not a science, its an art. Next time I paint a Bushman I am going to do it the BSA way.

I just dont understand how a company could ever promote a 'touch up' paint for a colour that was never consistent.

Hi,

Can anyone suggest why I am getting notifications on this topic (like Bushman Orange colour) and yet if I click the link they are not here ?

Thanks, Graham.

D1 Renovation; had it for 50 years and thought I ought to start :)

However, as I thought it might take a while, bought a B40 to ride.

Maybe because I've started moving questions from the Technical Archive as it is a place with answers to frequently asked questions, not a place for asking questions frequently!
