Currently restoring my first Bantam.  I have purchased both spray and brush versions of the paint but a test on a component does not in my opinion match up with Bantams in Mist Green I have seen in the past.

I therefore ask if there any owners of Mist Green Bantams within 20 -25 miles of Camberley / Lightwater (Surrey) who I could contact and subsequently visit to compare my Mist Green with theirs ?

Thank you.

Line up 10 mist green Bantams and you will probably have 10 different shades. Remember the paint mix wasn't consistent when new from BSA, the shades changed slightly when they changed supplier. Bikes age differently too, sun will fade the paint, some are polished some are not and most will have had some paintwork done over the last 40 years or so. Best to just choose a colour that you think looks right and go with it...….or paint it bright orange like the Kent area rep did. It certainly stood out from the crowd!

Current bikes......1958 D5, a 77 Suzuki GT250 and a 77 Honda CB125S. I have a 74 Kawasaki S3 400 and a B175 waiting for restoration. A 1980 Honda CB400N waiting for MOT.  Everyday ride is a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster.

Hi, back in 1968-69 when I was 15ish I had a D1 that had been painted purple with orange tank panels, I have bought another D1 which is what looks like old flaky green hammerite and I was thinking what colour to paint it and the thought did cross my mind laughbut maybe a better job than the brush  painted one.thinking

Sorry, not a direct answer to your question, but I recently refreshed the paintwork on my D1 using Paragon Paints Mist Green which I brushed on. In my opinion only, it is a very satisfactory colour shade for a  D1. It can also be sprayed but I brushed it on, achieving a satisfactory finish for me. A 500ml tin easily covered two brushed coats on all the tinware.

And, sorry, I am too far away from you for comparison purposes.

1951 Bantam D1 125, 1954 Bantam Enduro, 1970 Bantam B175, all Bantams on the road and ridden regularly, 1995 Yamaha Diversion 900 and 2016 Honda Integra 750 scooter. Horses for courses, all very different to each other, but a bike for every occasion.

Thank you.

Next door neighbour gave me a couple of newsletters from the Vintage Motorcycle  club (VMCC), in the back of there is an advert for "authentic, original paint". Available from the club website. Says to put in make, model and year and select from list. If you know someone who is a member it may be worth checking out if you are intent on an original shade.

I think my D1 is very close, I found some original paint from between two brackets where the sun had not got to it, and had it matched by an excellent paint supplier, unfortunately I am too far away to be able to do a comparison with you.

Years ago, back in the 1970's it was still possible to buy NOS genuine spares, still nicely wrapped up in brown crepe paper, all of them Mist Green, and all of them slightly different!  For one of my Bantam restorations I used Ford Ludlow Green, when I did another one I had it powder coated to colour reference RAL6011. Halfords can probably mix these up for you.

Remember that when they were being made Bantams were budget, bottom of the range bikes, and in those pre computer days paint matching probably was a bit more subjective.

If you have a part that is of a colouring to your liking then you can always take it to a paint shop and get it matched.

Vauxhall’s “leaf green” is a fairly good match, and is (was) available readily from Halfords in spray cans. I believe RAL6011 “Reseda Green” is the closest standard modern formulation.
