Thought it may be a new vibration...if it is it could be vibrating the needle off its seat.

Big end starting to fail springs to mind...that why I asked is the vibration a new or worsening one.

An interesting idea but I'm not sure that the vibration's quite that bad. I'll keep fiddling about and let you know if I do any good. Ken.

It's not exactly new and sometimes it's worse than other times; and it's not unbearable to ride or anything like that. You may well be right about the big end, though, of course.

Had a big end go on mine...unmistakable...bad vibrating from around 25mph in top.

To try to get my bike running properly without four (?) stroking I'd already changed the carburettor, points, condenser, plug and exhaust system and spent ages fiddling with the points and timing with no success. So yesterday - after a bout of loss of enthusiasm - I tried the only thing I'd not already changed and fitted a different (even older) ignition coil and - lo and behold - no four stroking. I only had a shortish ride but was pleased with it. I shall try it out better next Wednesday on my day off. Fingers crossed.

Good work Ken...fingers crossed...

We were over you way last week....visited East Kirkby Airfield...and had A day in Lincoln.

Loved East Kirkby...you ever been.

Nick.

I've only been once. There's a charity "Wolds Run" from there every year in May and I went last year. The weather was great and there was a terrific collection of bikes - and a nice ride through the Wolds. The Lancaster taxied, too. It rained this year !

Waiting for the end of the story!. Did changing the coil cure the problem in the end?

Well, I think my four stroking problem may finally be over - after trying three different carburettors, three slides, two needle positions, different points and condenser and a different exhaust pipe and silencer all to no avail. I tried advancing the timing (with the points plate) on the advice of a friend who'd sorted out the poor slow running on his Tiger 100 by advancing his timing. That made it worse on my bike, though, so I loosened the cam, turned it anti clockwise a touch and retightened it; and lo and behold - no four stroking. However, it was running hot and lacking in power so I then turned the cam clockwise a tiny bit and have now got a pretty decent running bike. What a relief. I was beginning to think that it would never go properly again. So, fingers crossed !

Sorry for the delay in answering this one but - although I thought it had at first - the coil made no difference at all. In fact I'd forgotten about having changed it and failed to put it on the list on my last post !
