Hi all, after the system crashed last week, there has been feverish activity trying to clear up some space to accommodate new posts. Generally old posts about shows on tv that have been and gone and meets in pubs that have closed down. So if you notice that your post count has gone down it's due to selective pruning. It's truly amazing how many topics come up over and over again, so I'll try to bring those threads and posts together into "definitive" threads on various subjects. It's a Herculean task - and i can guarantee that it won't be me who writes the one-size-fits-all thread on D7 electrics - that is a hefty volume all of it's own. But for now, hopefully, the Forum is still functional and we've avoided the comet that was hurtling towards us! I'll try to keep you updated if there's anything that'll affect operations going to happen. In the meantime, continue to enjoy the Forum and happy tinkering.
All the best and stay safe,
Stewart

Speaking as an ex-moderator, yes it involves a huge amount of time and yes, you learn a lot about Bantams, but you also see the incredible number of repeated questions and it does get frustrating! That's why we keep banging on about looking at what is already available on the forum. I'm very happy that Stoo has taken up the baton from me - he does a great job in often difficult circumstances.

Nice work Stewart, continuing the fine work of keeping the forum alive.
A while back, when digging deep a few times, I noticed many defunct photobucket posts, have they been removed too? Is there some trick algorithm that when applied, allows their removal en masse...or is that work of the laborious kind, asks he with zero tech knowledge.
Is it possible to copy all content in a forum quickly(as I assume google does automatically) , using latest modern tech...maybe employing cheap labour, as our Internet providers do, to allow a third party to reconfigure setup that offers alternatives that discourage repeat content. I have a good friend who`s a talented web designer, with all the other services at her disposal. Could she be of any use?
Or am I over-simplifying capabilities of a nearly decade-old forum framework?

Thanks, gents. Much appreciated. Alas, Blue, "en masse" is not an option. It's a plod-click-scroll-click-swear-plod-click-get distracted-swear-click kinda process at the moment.... There has to be a better way. My own IT credentials aren't the greatest by any means and there has been discussion of transferring to a different system which would in itself be a massive upheaval. At present I'm trying to slim down the amount of stuff that we'd have to transfer to a new format/server. Alas our present "latest modern tech" is about as modern as a D3 🙂 (And please, if you use language like "algorithms," I'll have to put you under moderation. Can't have that sort of talk on the forum 🙂 ) The photobucket stuff is such a terrible shame. So much of that was really valuable stuff by some great ex members who did fantastic work in the early years of the Forum - much of it on tap-a-talk before it moved to this system. A lot of it forms the basis for the vast, worldwide database of Bantam knowledge we now curate. This is continually growing and, in years to come, will be the definitive encyclopaedia for all Bantam users, so I feel very much that it's vital to preserve as much of the technical input as possible and at the same time let users have the space to breath and blether. Often a very difficult balance, especially when space is critical. By all means get your chum to get in touch with me. I'm always very open to any assistance and new ideas, despite the misgivings of one or two of our number:-) Meanwhile the clicking and plodding will continue in the background - "click"
All the best to you all,
Stewart

Stoo - our 2354 x registered Forum Users should be grateful for your plod-and-click efforts. Or is it click-and-plod...?

Do you have administrator tools to get direct access to the SQL database? When I was an admin a few years ago sometimes it was more efficient to use the SQL to find all posts containing 'X', then do something with them, delete move or whatever. However (!) needed to look up the instructions first to be sure the instruction was right, lest there's a massive coke-up...
Broken photobucket links – not a huge prob as far as storage goes as they are just lnks to another site (if annoying). Much more of an issue is uploaded pictures which do actually occupy web site (forum) storage space. Yes I have had to do 'culls' of stored images, some of which were huge, that was before we instigated a size limit on uploaded pictures!
