Go to the members profile and the first page will have a Contact xxxx halfway down and a send pm

Also you can go to inbox at the top of the page and compose. Find member and send.

If responding to a post use the envelope top right of each message third in from the right.

I don't think as a new member you can send PM's until a certain amount of time or posts has been completed. I think this is to stop those who join the forum just to send spam to people. You may be able to send them already if you aren't brand new?

Current bikes......1958 D5, a 77 Suzuki GT250 and a 77 Honda CB125S. I have a 74 Kawasaki S3 400 and a B175 waiting for restoration. A 1980 Honda CB400N waiting for MOT.  Everyday ride is a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster.

Hi Steve he’s been a member since 12 August and is second gear. But for my own info perhaps Piquet can enlighten us on when the restriction is lifted.

Actually, I'm confused by all this "first gear" "second gear" labelling. I presumed it was to do with the number of posts the member had made perhaps? Be interested to know, if you do...

I've been thinking that would could be doing with a concise, "one size fits all" guide to jong the site, seaching topics, loading pics etc. Perhaps pin it at the top in "New Users" Hopefully newbies could see that first and get a grasp of how to get the best out of the site for themselves.... With forum stuff way down the page, I admit,I tend to bypass it and just go to the "juicy" tech stuff. smile

I imagine the 'gear usage' was added during the latest site upgrade, though I don't really see any benefit as the number of posts made is also on view. As for the 'one size fits all', remember that the site is a low budget one with limited storage, etc, so (Possible rant alert!) intended to be used by people prepared to accept those limits. All the sub-forum headings have detailed descriptions on contents and intended use, designed to help new (and existing) users. In my view many people are not prepared to look before they post

THOSE ARE MY VIEWS NOT INTENDED TO UPSET

I'm not sure, but I think PM 'rights' are applied after a certain number of posts, rather than length of membership.

I have no knowledge of the particular storage limits of the site whether it be 50gb 200gb 50Tb. However, there is undoubtedly much scope for some judicious pruning of invites for a cuppa from 2014, resolved wanted ads, duplicate postings, social chit-chat, unsolicited opinion and other general waffle that doesn't improve the user experience. New users would be far more likely to check a post at the top of the site saying "NEW USERS:READ THIS FIRST" than to meander through the listings to a collection of  miscellany in Forum Community. It also means that new users can be directed to one topic rather than given individual prompts per query. There will always be a few who don't read it but they'll get, hopefully friendly, helpful, tolerant assistance along the way.

Obviously not like that. That bears no resemblance whatsover to what I described. As you are well aware, that is a section. The pinned post would be at the top of that section.

Hmmmm...... What did I mention about unsolicited opinion and other general waffle taking up unnecessary space......

It's a fair cop - but society is to blame...

If you look, though, most of the sections do have a pinned post at the top. As a Moderator you may be able to change the format to something you think better.

I must have spent too much time rearranging the sections - it's warped my mind...
