No idea how to save a copy of a ebay listing, but suffice it to say the following item - a genuine BSA tool sold for a small fortune.

Is this 'really' what a clutch compressor is worth?

I can assure you, it's "really" not worth much that to me! smile Although it is a fine-looking implement!

But that is what can happen at an Auction with more then one person bidding and the price goes up and up
a more realistic price that they usually sell for, this from a Sold item search.

£30.00 is about what I would have been willing to pay.

It's an auction site - It's worth what someone is willing to pay.

1956 D3 running, lights to sort. 7 other bikes in the Barn, 6 runners (when I get time!) and a still in progress Morini 250

I understand that coco it's just theres a lot on buy it now for £2000+ I was looking yesterday and there wasnt one up for less than £2000 within 100 miles.Yes they're hanging around a bit but people aren't letting them go for buttons.

Don’t mistake the asking price for the price realised. If you want real prices check out completed listings and only the ones that actually sold. Remember dealers advertise their stock on eBay and their prices are higher than a private seller. There are always dreamers who value their bike higher than it’s actually worth, they will either drop the price or keep the machine.

Having said all that, prices of all classic bikes have risen. People are now buying bikes as an investment rather than to ride or even show. They are not bikers or bike lovers, they just see them as a way to earn more money than they would leaving the money in the bank. That pushes prices up, and people who want them to ride or restore end up paying more.

Current bikes......1958 D5, a 77 Suzuki GT250 and a 77 Honda CB125S. I have a 74 Kawasaki S3 400 and a B175 waiting for restoration. A 1980 Honda CB400N waiting for MOT.  Everyday ride is a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster.
