Hi Basil,

I noticed your post, do you still have the B175 engine?    If so I may be interested since I've been having little luck finding a 4 speed D10 engine which is what my bike should have.    It looks ready to run, is that the case?

All the best.

Hi Gordon, yes it is ready to run I rebuilt it several years ago I think about 3 or 4 you may have to alter the carb settings to suit but yes it is ready to run, I had it briefly in a B175 for a while whilst I rebuilt the engine for that one. Sorry I have been a little while answering I have been working in N.Ireland all week. Regards Basil.

Hi Basil,

Thanks for getting back to me.   As I said I'm really looking for a D10 engine but they seem to be getting harder to find and your B175 might just fit the bill as 4 speeds is my main concern.   Since your the area rep you may know that someone is trying to get the Scottish section up and running again so I have put out fellers to him to see if anyone more local can help me.

If this falls through I'd like to see your engine but since we are at opposite ends of the country it won't be easy.   I'm likely to be down your way before Xmas and could get in touch to arrange something nearer the time, if that is okay with you?    In the meantime if you get a sale it will just be my hard luck.   Thanks again for your help.

All the best.

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

There is always a chance that I may be up your way but only a chance, just as a mater of interest I have another B175 engine for sale which is very good but on a standard bore and in good nick inside but with no carb, cables or levers, I have had it running and it is good.

Regards Basil.

Hi Colin,

I would like £500 for that engine it has no carb with it but it is in really good nick inside, I had it to pieces because it had stood a long time and all I have done to it is run a glazebuster down the bore nothing else and it runs well.

Regards Basil.

Hi Basil

Thanks for the answer, I'll give it a little thought as I just bought the bike and found it should be a B175 but has a D10 engine, I bought it as a D10 so no complaints, I'd like to restore it back to original spec though now I know what it should be.

Are you ever in the Midlands which would save transport costs?

Best regards

Colin

Hi Colin,

what sort of condition is your D10 engine in?

is the crank ok? And the barrel/piston? Good compression?

and what price were you thinking?

thanks

Hi Stu

I've only just started looking at the machine so all I can say ref the engine is that after cleaning and setting the points and plug and cleaning the carb, putting fuel in it ran after 5 or 6 kicks, apparently it hadn't run for 4 years. It didn't run well, only with the air control closed so I think its a carb issue or it's sucking in air somewhere. It's leaking gearbox oil which is due to a duff gasket as far as I can see. The compression is 75 psi I haven't put oil in the barrel to see if it goes up yet but I'll do that at some point. If I keep it in the bike I'll strip it down and replace all bearings, oil seals and gaskets as I think it needs a bit of TLC, but I must admit I want to put the correct engine in the bike which is a B175. As far as price goes I have no real clue as I'm new to Bantams but looking at what is on the mighty Ebay I would guess about £200.00. The engine number is D10 313 if that gives you any clue as to it's vintage. I tried to upload some pictures but I must be doing something wrong if you want some pics I'll try to sort out my incompetance.

Best regards

Colin

Should help you with posting pics, Col. It's a 1MB size limit - that's usually the issue.
