bravo Thanks for that. I find it interesting how much of the 'Jap «censored»' we (or I) mocked in our youth are now collector's pieces. But there was some great British stuff about, too. I wonder if the far-eastern models that many decry now will become sought after in 40 odd years?

I remember calling them Jap «censored» too, but my first bike was a dreadful Raleigh Runabout (British) that had seen far better days, and after that I got a super reliable Puch Maxi (Austrian). From there it was Jap «censored» all the way and I wouldn't have dreamt of owning anything British for fear of having the mickey taken by all my mates. One of them did own a 50's Royal Enfield, and every summer he took two weeks off to rebuild it and "stop the damned oil leaks". The leaks were so bad he carried a baking tray around with him to put underneath the bike, and he poured all the oil collected back in the bike before he set off. Within two weeks of the summer rebuild it was leaking oil again. He eventually gave up and got a Morini 3 1/2. It was the mid 70's and the Brit bikes were so far past their best.

I think as we get older, we lust after what we had in our youth - hence the Honda CD175 and the love of steam trains.  It wont be long before people look at R1's and R6's with the same passion that we give to the bikes of our youth.

Current bikes......1958 D5,  and a 76 Honda C90 in the workshop.

Yes, all of those.....plus petrol at low prices. In 1958 when I was born it was 4/8d (about 23p), when I first got a bike (1974)  it was 50p and when I got married (1979) it was 98p. Of course, those prices are per gallon, not per litre as todays prices are. Those were the days eh?

Current bikes......1958 D5,  and a 76 Honda C90 in the workshop.
