Not a bad day down here in Cornwall today, not too cold, no wind and better still not raining. I fitted my newly overhauled engine a week or so ago so thought today was a good day to put a few miles on it.

First off to Looe for one of the best pasties in Cornwall, tiny little shop that you have to be careful to not hit your head on the ceiling and always a queue even today, there 'ansome !

After that worked my way along the coast on the backroads and lanes, seems as if most of the population was hitting the shops as nice and quiet, though did have a few cars behind me on some of the hills as usual but soon left them on the flat bits where this little critter cracks along well.

Had a break, view across Plymouth Sound, yes l still have my Exeter Trial front number board on by the way.

Don't know if anyone has seen the film recently released with Timothy Spall playing the artist Turner but they filmed some of it here in Kingsands.

This was in that film.

Then take the critter for a ferry ride over the border into Plymouth and down to the bikers hangout down the Barbican, put next to the Ducati Panigale and Harley Customs this D1 looks as if it has been beamed down from a previous era !

All seems ok with the rebuilt engine, dogged down the cylinder head a bit more and hoofed up the exhaust nut though the natural carbon sealing seems to be doing it's job.

About 70 miles today, always surprising how far you can go on these bikes given the right route and in the summer months an afternoons ride can be quite easily 80 to 100 miles even with doing 25-30 mph (or less) on the hills.

That's ok then Phil, you can tell the Old Bill that you were just working it all out by timing the mileometer....

Hi Phil.
I have been to Cornwall quite recently (not on my Bantam) but can't remember exactly the route I took. I did not use the ferry so can only assume I used the Tamar Bridge. If I remember correctly the only possibilities are the Tamar Bridge or Torpoint Ferry. Is that correct?
You had a good dry ride by the looks of things, I don't know why but if ever I go on a rideout with my D14 I end up getting soaked and spend the next week cleaning it. They say the sun shines on the riteous, maybe that's telling me something.
All the best.
         Mike.

Mike and all,

Yes the D1 is on the Torpoint Ferry, and l live almost under the Tamar Bridge ! I don't worry about getting this Bantam mucky, last time I cleaned it was last January after the Exeter Trial, although a huge amount of crud fell off when I took the engine out a while ago.

You should see the state of my Moto Guzzi single which is my daily hack used on country lanes, it really does look as if it's been in a war zone !!!
