 Wotcha.

All being well, I shall be heading for Newark in just over a week's time.

Don't know if it will be Saturday or Sunday yet ( watch this space ).

Anyone else doing it next year ?

The missus and I will be there on Saturday, buying up paint, nuts and bolts for various projects. It's become a new years 'blow away the cobwebs' tradition now to freeze on the wonderful Newark Showground.

Cheers Col

FB Falcon 87 needs wiring to finish. Ariel Arrow on the back burner, MZ125 running, Royal Enfield Classic love it, Velo LE waiting for spares, Simson Schwalbe now 12v and running.

Might just spot you if the beards still the same colour. Saturday confirmed for me now. Was going to do a 'bus service' from Yorkshire collecting waifs and strays along the way, but as no Yorkies going apart from me, I'll stop over at Newark Friday and have a stupidly long day gathering bits for the Francis Barnett and MZ projects. So I'll be the smiling chap with his missus in tow carrying pots of paint. rofl

Went today ( Sat) some really good machines on display, sadly I saw only ONE Bantam a tidy D1 if there were any more they were well hidden.

Does anyone know why we were not better represented?I would have thought that a club as big as ours would be able to show what we've got,is Newark to far "up North" ?

ADMIN EDIT:- Duplicate topics combined.

'68 D14 Sport,'65 Honda CB160 Sport,'49 D1 Rigid  ).'62 Honda 50 Sports Cub.'50 D1 plunger.

Let me answer that with a question?

If the BSA Bantam Club is so big, what is the date of the national rally this year?

Where were you then? Shan and I had a lovely wander, found a Lone Wolf lurking around the Lady Eastwood (where there was a nice D14). Couple of D1s in the George Stephenson, but that was about your lot - I'll check the photos when I get home.

As for representation, it would be nice as Newark is probably as central as you can get for members, and seen as I'm there every year I'd be happy to do a stint on a stand. But a club as big as ours? I'm not sure we could take on the might of the Zundapp Bella Owners Club for a start....but then I'd guess it's where the majority of the committee for a club are based, as to how viable a show is.

I went to Newark today. As a new(ish!) member  and new to bikes and Bantams, with no one locally to ask for advice about a problems I've been having with my D1, I thought that there would be some Bantams and owners. Drove down from even further 'oop north'! Found only one and did manage to have a chat with its owner but was very surprised that there were not more there. Half a million Bantams were produced - where are they all!?

I've attended and enjoyed the last two national rallies and I'm looking forward to this year's in September. Personally, I think it works well as a part of another - much bigger - rally rather than just a hundred or so Bantam people. I do think that a stand at Newark would be good and there's a lot of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire members who I feel sure would be happy to turn up and help.

As the Area Rep for the South Derbyshire and Nottingham Branch of the BSA Bantam Club there are a number of points to be considered from some of the above posts:

The members who run the Club and Branches are all unpaid volunteers and do so to help others enjoy Bantams, quite often putting in many hours to organise and run life in the Club.

The suggestion to have a stand at the Newark Show is a good idea and would be beneficial to the Club, its members and any potential members visiting the show. However to have a stand at any show it requires a lot of planning to ensure its success, setting up on the Friday with all display machines arriving and placed on the stand, manning over the weekend before being taken down after the show closes on the Sunday afternoon. As one of the Branches closest to Newark we could probably have a stand there next year, however this year we are already having three stands at local events to promote the Club and Branch as well as hosting the National Rally in September. So unfortunately there is a limit to the number of events that can be attended, perhaps take a view of our planned activities for this year for our Branch will give an idea of what we commit to doing. Mike Kilvert and his Team who work extremely hard to run the many events are also only able to attend so many shows to promote the Club starting with the Shepton Mallet Show in February, attending the two shows at Stafford, the NEC and probably a few more!

The date for the National Rally has been on the forum for quite some time and also details can be found in the December edition of the Banter.

So if you want to get involved please make yourself known as help is always welcome, as is a shared work load.

What a shame when people complain that other people aren't doing enough for them. I suggest that a trip to the club stand at Stafford and/or to the National Rally would make anyone realise how much thought and hard work goes on by willing, unpaid workers on behalf of our club !
