Such mixed messages on running in - I've been told everything from thrash from new to part throttle for 1500 miles ....  I think it differs too between steel/cast liners and nikasil bores.

My own suggestion would be to put it through a few heat cycles before you put it under load. Then when riding it build it up slowly - as in let it get to temperature and don't hold it wide open for a bit (a challenge on a D1) - doing that for half a tank say and then (once it's warm) start giving it some beans to make sure it loosens up properly.

I think the goal is to avoid the cylinder glasing (don't plod for too long), to get a good seal (heat cycles), and to let the thing loosen up (revving it when warm).

Your ways sounds like the advice my re-bore man gave me Steve...I think thats they way I will go....first ride later on.

My old piston must have been rattling...that's all gone now.

Sorry Mick - that'll be my fault. I booked the weather for Sunday late so they'll be re-jigging things to fit us in.

I remember being told or reading or both that you only "thrash" new rings in Stephen, when they are going into a partly worn bore, so as to seat them quickly before they and the bore glazes over?

Maybe with cheap flexi hones etc, today we'd maybe touch the bore up a bit too, so that both mating surfaces grew together?

Four now on the road and at least several in bits.

Pete says it's looking good with a d1, d14, b175, and b175b planning to come from his way.

Nice one Mick, yes I'm from near Clitheroe so not too far. look forward to seeing you all there!

I'll be on the bike as it needs a good shake down run.

Cheers

Brad

Thanks Mick 😀- I replied in the other thread. Have you done the modification to the brakes that I posted about ?

If so - and the leading edge of both shoes were already touching first, you might not get much difference. If like mine the trailing edge was touching first then it'll feel substantially different !
