Hi,

I Just bought my first bike (D3 plunger). The frame number is BD2S-51107 and the engine number is BD3B-11311 according to the registration book (Ceylon was the country name that time).

Also, I am unable to find (more like don't know how) to find those numbers on the bike. Also, I'll post a photo of the bike and can you guys can tell me do the bike looks correct.

Thank you very much.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The bike looks great, I’m not an expert on the early Bantam’s but yours looks to be basically standard. Maybe the seat has been raised ss it looks a little higher than usual? Also the front mudguard is visually closer to the tyre, is a 19” wheel fitted?

You seem to have all the difficult to find parts including a side stand.

On later Bantam’s the engine number is on the top left hand side of the engine and the frame number is on the headstock where the forks attach to the frame. It may be different on this earlier bike.

Enjoy bringing it back to life!

Regards

BD2s 51107 together with engine BD3B 11311 left the factory on the 15th July 1955 and was sent to Cargills in London. I am guessing that they are a shipping company because there are a lot of bikes around this one that went to Cargills and none of them have transport data which is left blank when the machine has gone abroad.

The frame number should be either on the headstock or front left engine mount. The engine number should be on the top of the crankcase halves under the carb.

Current bikes......1958 D5, a 77 Suzuki GT250 and a B175 almost ready for the road and a 76 Honda C90 in the workshop. A 1980 Honda CB400N now on the road and my everyday ride is a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster. All bikes (except the D5) are now for sale...

Cargills were and still are based at Fort, Columbo, Sri Lanka.

They are listed in the parts books which show overseas importers and google shows them to be a current large business. 1958-1959-A-Series11.jpg

You obviously have more time than me to research. I only go off what is in the factory records.
