Barffy...what type og cyd head gauge are you fitting...I fitted on were you fit a thermo couple sensor under the spark plug...all self powering.

I also fitted an Exhaust Gas Temp Gauge..the CHT are a bit slow to react if your piston starts to get to hot...that happens very quickly.

In the summer the temp when riding along would be around 100c quickly raising if stopped at lights ect.

Dont have that kit on now it was only during my testing period...egt was very useful for checking the mixture was not to weak.

Nick.

Hi there,

Just noticed something that you may wish to consider.

The air filter is different to normal , therefore may run weak ? May need a larger main jet ?

Also the carb to barrel gasket isn't standard , air leaks ??

Just a thought

Just another thought , sorry my brain works in fits and starts !

If you look at the finning on the head on the right side rear corner , near your right knee , in between the outer 2 fins , there's a number stamped .

If you can read it , what is it please ? Might be able to work out what head is on it that way.

Planned in some time to take the cylinder head off on Sunday, can anyone advise on the gasket, is it replaced on every removal like a crush gasket? I assume not being metal?

thanks

Matt

Hi there,

The d14s usually take 1 x .050" , 50 thous head gasket or 2 x 25 thous.

They're about 6 quid or so

The base gaskets are paper (or if your'e clever a shredded wheat packet) , so have a spare handy if you can.

I use hylomar paste on the base gasket also , belt and braces.

Obviously the carb will come off first , just check whilst it's off the flatness of the carb face (with a sheet of glass or steel rule)where it joins the barrel. Again , ensure the carb gaskets are good.

When you replace the head eventually, just take down each nut a bit then opposite , back and forth each a bit until they're all down equally.

Hope it helps

I always fit new head gaskets...only cheap...you can heat them to alneal them...softens them again...vids on youtube showing you.

Rex Caunt is good with his prices and advice.

If you become a club member you get a 10% discount....also access to the workshop manuals ect ect...well worth the £18 or whatever it is now...oh and a club mag every few months...good value.

Dont forget...not which way every thing comes off...inc the rings if you remove that grove 1 and 2 and right way up.

Ask advice on each step...more so on re-assembly.

Nick.
