Hi sorry if this had been covered before, I've had a search on here and Google but had no luck.
Over the years it looks like someone has attempted to remove the screw that holds the points to the contact plate with a jackhammer so I need to change it.
Can anyone advise me on the thread type/size? I've rummage through my big box of random nuts and bolts but not found any that match.

Hi.
I have to say that I don't know but would guess it's probably a BA thread or possibly UNC going on past discussions.
It was suggested in a past thread that it was 4BA and I would go along with that.
Link to the past thread below, it's actually for a D10 but D14 should be the same.

Hope that helps.

** Please log in to view ** The service and price are excellent. You could get a couple of dozen BA screws(very handy) for the price of one posted from Drags.... plus they arrive super quick 🙂

it does look like something is wrong with your points though as the contact faces don’t look parallel
and you are missing the felt pad the lubricates the cam/points heal
the points screws are 4 BA

Yeah the new points are on their way to me as is a new contact plate and condenser. Though none of these items appear to come with a felt pad.
Is there somewhere I can get hold of one?
Thanks for the help/info.

Those points look like gen Wipac points...the replacement will prob be made in india.
Dont bin those old points....get those contacts sitting with the contact faces parallel and you will be fine....modern replacement are basically junk.
Just need a bit of re-alining.
Nick.

Hi Ade,
You can make your own felt pad holder by bending piece of thin metal to 90degs, drilling hole for condenser screw and cutting a wide slot in the other end, pop your felt in and crimp enough to hold it in place. I had to do this for one of my D14s. The other bike still has the original condenser with the integral felt holder.
Cheers

Good idea to re-locate the condenser up by the coil....keeps it cool and away from vibrations both killers.
Looks like the tab just wants to bend a tad more to line up properly.
