Hi All

As part of the rebuild and up-dating of my B175 I bought a complete exhaust system from Armours since the original was, - well - grim! The one advantage of the new silencer over the original is that the baffles can be completly removed for cleaning. The original silencer is empty with two holes in a fixed end plate at the cone end. The Armours has a series of plates which have been cut and then twisted for the passage of gasses.

This question is for both D14 and B175 owners assuming you have changed from the original to an Armours silencer - does it affect the performance?

all the original silencers fitted from the factory had removable baffles apart from the first D1 so your “original” was a pattern one if the baffles were Not removable.
I have never used one of the Pattern type or the Armours so cant comment, but 2strokes can be very fussy about the correct amount of back pressure needed in the exhaust to give best running.

Hi, have just fitted a new Armours silencer to my B175 and it makes no difference to performance at all. Regards Basil.

I fitted a high level (Bushman type) header & Armour silencer to my D14/4 & it goes well on it, when it's running that is.

Hi All

Thanks for your replies. I know for racing two strokes the correct design of exhaust system is critical to achieve maximum performance but, for my road going B175 it isn't! The silencer that was on my Bantam when I bought it, had had, the end butchered by a previous owner trying to remove the welded in end baffle plate. Who ever it was had failed. With it also looking the worse for wear I bought a complete new system.
