Hi. New to the forum, but not to bikes!
Just an additional query. I have a B175, 1970, bored to 185, George Todd head, new carb, electronic ignition, etc. I see one of the members had a similar problem as myself. Starts well. Carb happiest at 3/4 of a turn out. Struggles a bit when running. A bit of choke helps, but bike doesn't pick up and rev freely. Carb is a new Anal 626/302. Have increase Main jet to 190. Helped a bit. Someone said carb should be 626/17. Does this make a major difference. Any ideas someone?

aMal 626 carbs are all mostly the same but with different jetting as below, so not the wrong Carb but
"bored to 185, George Todd head" complicates getting the jetting correct
626/17 has
3.5 Cutaway Slide
180 Main Jet
105 Needle Jet
and fixed pilot jet
626/302 has
3 Cutaway Slide
170 Main Jet
106 Needle Jet
25 Pilot Jet

Predictive text!! List of /17 parts really helpful. Amazing that a few minor parts can make such a (hopeful) difference! Not sure why the last owner didn't fit the right one, although he bought it from a dealer rather than Amal. (note spelling!!) Should be interchangeable as the carb body is the same. Will chat with Burlen on Monday. Cheers.

Thanks for the float tip. The carb has both. Due to the bigger bore and GT head, I may have to jet up a bit. Burlen suggested a 190 main, leave the needle jet and up the pilot to a 30. This was before I investigated on the forum. Will re-strip carb today and check all the bits.

fixed jet is only on the B175 626/17 carb
they can be more trouble, cant be altered and easily blocked and very hard to clean hence the mod in the photo below

It made sense to me at the time Coco !
The darned thing disgraced itself today though. Since I did the carb mod it has been starting first kick, I was really chuffed .
I'd not started it for a few days & thought I'd give it a kick, away it went first kick but wouldn't rev.
Only conclusion I've come to is that I hadn't run the float chamber out & the ethanol fuel had evaporated just leaving an access of oil.
I'll see when I try again.

funny enough that is the symptom of a blocked pilot jet
(more so on the 375 Carb my AJS is constantly doing that)

Hi. Quick update. 3 1/2 Slide fitted, 105 Needle jet as well. Picks up far better. A bit sluggish low down, but revs a lot better. Needle in second groove. Another query- gearbox selects well, but a bit reluctant finding second and first when moving on down changes; not bad at standstill. Oil level fine.
Cheers.
