Next bantam D1 (d3 forks again!) is nearing completion, I sold the GPO project for approx the cost, but learned a lot. This D1 is not the usual mist green but Black with cream panel, waiting for the silencer to be delivered and trying to find a reasonably priced speedo (prob easier to win the lotto!) then get her going and apply for original reg, I have the buff log book so fingers crossed with that. I intend to keep this as a rider for a while.

I also sold the grey D1 mongrel I was riding, sad to see it go I had many a happy hour over the summer riding around the hills, I am also working on a t20 cub, the model I passed my test on 50 years ago.....looking forward to a few rides out down memory lane

In the back of the shed is a Francis Barnett 1934 black torpedo cruiser for a later job. I am not impressed with the Triumph forum and same with the Francis Barnett club, unlike this wonderful forum you have to be a facebook member which I am not.

Hope you are all keeping well, regards Larryblack-d1.JPG

Good to see you keeping busy, Larry. And a nice spread of bikes. I wasn't over-impressed with the triumph forum when I was a member. Really just joined for the technical info and it was very haphazard and endless wait for reply(if any) Haven't tried the franny barnett one - yet!

Happy spannering

I'm with you on that, Larry. Personally, I find facebook an environment to be avoided as much as possible. Far prefer this format which has a bit of meat to it. How is your Cub coming? I've got this sitting in my living room backfiring. Just need the time to sort out the timing(again) rofl

Stoo - I thought that my wife was understanding, I don't think she'd stand for that though.

Pootle - Picos de Europa, wonderful biking country.

Thanks all, I have joined the FB club and using the forum without facebook but nut much on there, not too active, unlike this forum.

The cub is coming along ok, it was a non runner when I bought it but complete, the wiring was shot so I am converting to 12v with a solid state rectifier/regulator, got it running on 12v with new coil and gel battery, just got to wire switches & lights now. Has the usual oil leaks on chaincase so will tackle those, fitting new tyres. I am not re-painting it, there are a few dings old repaint bits, scratches and warts but that is how they were.

I am going to fit indicators, just browsing on the net so far to try to find some that will look ok, I feel that in todays traffic they are worth the non-standard look for safety.

I passed my test on a cub 50 years ago, it is amazing to think we rode all over the place day and night on 6v electrics with no breakdown cover, never changed the oil as we topped it up every week (or more often) I remember going to Blackpool, Lake District, Yorkshire dales etc, and if any of you remember (East Lancs / West Yorks) the Tomato Dip cafe near Skipton now a new housing estate.......Happy days!

I should be on the road for a test ride in a few weeks, I can then finish the D1 and make a start on the 1934 model 39 FB cruiser which will be a big job for the winter months

Regards to all, Larry

Nice bike stoo, mine looks to have the same carb, mine has no air slide for cold start, I think the carb is called standard amal (for the cubs) do they have one of those push down choke air slide on a ratchet type mechanism? it starts ok cold so may be running a bit rich, I will put a pic on when I wiring done and it is out of the shed
