I've written elsewhere about the purchase of this lamp, I did manage to go to shed and strip it out and find a bit more than I bargained for, ie: 3 springs and ditto brass "plungers" missing from switch, as was the knob. Varley battery missing too!

I had been racking or wracking, not sure, my brain, to try remembering where I'd bought the "wrong" 5 inch headlamp rims for my d7's, but who knows what's around the corner eh? I suddenly found a use for them on this rebuild. One is actually a Miller, probably not the right sort to fit I suppose, but having said that, it's the only one with a holes "ear" for the keeper screw to go through.

Speaking of which, despite the new tin of rapideze or whatever it's called, the broken off approx, 4BA screw or what remained of it, would not budge, although I didn't try heat. I used incremental sized drill bits and tapped last bit out before retapping the hole. I then used the paint stripper on the cowl and found a rainbow of colours, only one not there was mist green, black, silver etc too.

She does flit in and out occasionally to do a bit of light dusting. Does sneak out with a wheelbarrow sometimes though? She is a very good companion and sometimes surprises me with her mechanical insight on things. (Which I just love!) I'm sure she's just itching to get things a bit closer to when she can pitch in and do some little jobs herself. (My kids hate the words BSA bantam by the way!)

Mudguard needs to come off to do a proper job, you'll have to get Lone Wolf to loan a couple of his softer rubber type hammers to sort it! DD.

I've recently been thinking of drilling out the spot welds, am I ever going to find a Varley battery and just for a parking light?

Do people leave these battery brackets on, and just for authenticity?

More room in there without I reckon, could keep spare bulbs and a few small tools, spare spark plug perhaps?

what do you think? DD.

PS, are those dents normal? If not I need to get that bracket off and out of the way, anyway, so as to straighten out and fill etc.

Thanks Munch, but it was only a very slight joke, Varley batteries haven't been made since the late fifties I believe, gotcha!

Getting on for five years later and almost there, maybe she got fed up of waiting, Mrs D now not so keen to ride bike!

Lamp will stay black etc, may not now do tank stencil, have used up much patience trying to fathom right size using microsoft paint etc. with no joy at all.

May very well be up for sale soon.

Not re-registered yet.
