A fine day at last so I wheeled the bike out of the shed so I could try to start it, I had to swap the crankcases to a pair with readable engine numbers, all done now thanks to the forum with help to overcome bits I was stuck with. A couple of new bearings fitted, new rings, clutch plates and a used but good mag rotor,

The clutch seems a bit stiff and not much movement but I will see if it is ok, new plug and fuel down the fuel pipe and she cracked up after five or six kicks, seemed to run ok but noisy as I have just fitted an old downpipe with no gasket, a new down pipe and silencer ordered.

Next job once exhaust fitted is to see if I have a lighting output from the coils, then on with total wiring as there are no wires apart from the rear light where I have fitted a 'too long' wire in the rear mudguard clips, also chain to fit and leg shields to paint and fit.

I will then be ready to get it registered with the DVLA, (I hope the club has a new dating officer soon) or I will be asking advice

The total cost so far is around 14 -1500 considering it is built from bits from Ebay I think is well worth it as I have really enjoyed the work (and challenges)

next update in a few weeks, hopefully the weather will improve for us all so we can enjoy our Bantams being ridden

I have been saving bits and bobs from my Ebay purchases where I have tried to buy job lots where possible (am I mad doing another ground up build as soon as this is finished!)

Looking really good Larry, I`ve never seen a bantam sitting so proud on its centre stand 🙂

Nah you`re not mad wanting to do another, you`ve got the bug. They never came to take me away...haha, as the song goes.

I agree, can`t beat job lots, still some bargains to be had.

On Fri I sent  one of my drivers to pick up a component, and the seller had a Bantam job-lot for £450. Not incentive enough for me to travel the 80-odd miles up the A1 to check it out, but probably 20 miles closer to you. Not saying it`s a bargain, incomplete bike and no V5 for starters, but maybe some hard to get parts if he`d split. Unless he`s shifted it over this weekend? I don`t think Bantam stuff stays put for too long nowadays.

There is a new guy waiting in the wings to take over as dating officer after the AGM. Don't worry there will be people there to help you when you need it.

Current bikes......1958 D5, a 77 Suzuki GT250 and a B175 almost ready for the road and a 76 Honda C90 in the workshop. A 1980 Honda CB400N now on the road and my everyday ride is a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster. All bikes (except the D5) are now for sale...

Thanks Les, trouble is with the grey matter is that the more new stuff goes in ….. some other stuff falls out... so the wife says

thanks Sunny

Cheers Blue Heeler, it is standing a bit too proud, a bit of filing on the stand is needed as it is a bit vertical at the moment!

that is great swalsh58 can't wait to finish it and get it registered.

Regards to all Larry
