IMG_0236.JPGHi All,had this for a week or so now, made a bit of progress, engine stripped and cleaned take a good look at the piston!and hope you never see yours looking like that,it was a beggar to free it from the barrel so new one on order from Rex,then a rebore, new bearings and seals etc, thankfully the gearbox looks OK.Had to straighten the frame before I primed it (thanks Steve)with a very scientific instrument which has to remain a Barnsley Secret! So on with the search for many parts, more de-rusting IMG_0267.JPGthen wheel building and so it goes on,happy days.

That's good progress for a week, wish I could get so much done!  Wheel building is a skill I need to learn, I'll have a go when I eventually get a workshop back.  Is that a cut down chainguard I can see?

regards.

D7/14 hybrid (4 speed with D7 crank etc.) on the road, D10 Bushman awaiting rebuilding.

Not sure what the chainguard is off, thought it was Bantam when I collected all the bits but I think it may be from a Triumph. When I get chance I'll post a better pic of it maybe someone on here will identify it

You don't let the grass grow under your feet,

A good start.

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong

Coming on nicely and quickly. Blimey! Engine and carb look very similar to the MZ I'm working on. Ended up stripping the engine down and taking the crank out with piston and barrel still attached so I could whack it in the press. Good luck with it!

Cheers Col

Digby.

Forgot to mention, if you want to borrow my wheel jig and spoke wrench, and.....spoke torque wrench, give me a shout. Nip in quick whilst my garage is too cold for human existence. Will be working on the Francis Barnett for a while, so the MZs wheel rebuild can wait a month.

Cheers Col

Thanks Col,could be a while before wheel building, not got back wheel yet then decide whether to powder coat or enamel the hubs,so you might probably do yours before I'm ready, but thanks for the offer,I'll let you know when I'm a bit nearer

No problies. At some point I want to pick your brains about painting stuff, so I can drop round. The spoke torque wrench turned out to be the mutts nuts when I built the Francis Barnett wheels (powder coated hubs) - unless I was very lucky - but did everything up to the same torque having got things to the right offset and and true and it all behaved perfectly.

Got a bit more done, laced front wheel and trued it up helped by Col's wheel jig, rebore done and engine rebuilt, painted rear hub so should get that wheel rebuilt tomorrow.

Welded cracks in frame engine mounts and reinforced central joint on lower frame,BSA  only seemed to tack the top of the joint so ran a weld over the top that should stop it from ever opening up,bit of a belt and braces approach but worth doing before painting the frame, pics to follow

cheers Digby

1-IMG_0308.JPGProgress of a sort!Fuel tank arrived from India, what mess, the build quality is dire, brackets in wrong place, rippled all over the tank welds as thick as my finger,so all in all not really useable without a lot of work.Anyone thinking of ordering one from India, make it a last resort and be prepared for a lot of work on it.On we go!2-IMG_0309.JPG

Slow down man. You'll have finished it, sold it and started another before I get my tank back (2 more weeks and it's a year), which I'm still not ready for. Does this tank mean I can pop round for a lesson in how to fill things without it looking like a gorilla has sneezed on it? Looking good.

Cheers Col
