Not being able to find a PRS4 knob, I turned to the forums and found Megga had suggested a possible substitute, a Lucas 316420 knob, it clicked into place almost perfectly. The slots on the knob matched the PRS4 exactly, no alterations needed. The inside diameter of the knob is a good fit, if maybe a very small fraction big giving the smallest of side to side movement, but not anything you would notice.. perhaps even the correct PRS4 knob has the same amount of play.

Once clicked in place it is firmly on.

I’ve added a couple of photo’s for you to see what it looks like 🙂

Hi Alan,

That substitute knob looks good.    That may be what I will have to use when I find a switch.   I have not been able to find the part number of the real knob.  Would you please tell me what that number is so I can look for it.

Thanks,

John

3AFD7D24-5EF5-4C92-8760-EA19275F9295.jpegHi John,

I haven’t been able to find a part number, I did find a Lucas switch list but the knob wasn’t itemised..

Bottom of the list showed what the switches were fitted too.. Indian Brave was one of them.. maybe that will help..

That PRS4 switch is really hard to find.

Regards,

Alan.

Hi again John,

I've just sent you a PM.. I've located a PRS4 switch for you in America.. pricey, but it's a switch. It still in need of a knob and it doesn't look like the website has one..

Regards,

Alan.

wonder if it would be possible to use the PRS3/31270 switch
since its lighting knob fits the PRS4
as they are still available as pattern part

Hi Mike,

I’ve just taken a look at the switch, it looks like the ignition part of the switch is only two stage, on / off, no emergency position. Looking underneath it has less poles to connect to. Diameter wise it does look about the same but a bit shorter in length, probably would just fit through the switch panel and into the headlamp.

Locking it in place would be awkward, it’s a different locking device but I’m guessing something could be cobbled up.

What’s needed is someone to try it, it would probably do the job minus the emergency position.

A good thought.

Regards,

Alan.

yes the PRS3 is for cars so only on/off ignition
but thats all you would need if you convert to 12volt
pity the fitting is not the same

Hi again Alan,

I ordered that switch.    I tried to use their contact  form but got an error message that said try later so I just phoned them.   The owner wasn't there and the people they have working do not know anything about old motorcycles.  They said if I had a part number for the metal ring and the knob they could tell if they had it or not.   So as far as I know right now I should have the switch on its way to me, Thanks to You.

That’s great, I tried to email them about the knob before I contacted you, but got that same error message. I then went right through their online inventory but didn’t come across the knob, or see the washer..
there is another knob on eBay that’s different to the one I’ve fitted but made to fit the same switch, just search PRS3 knob on eBay. It’s cream coloured with a sticking out bit. Not sure if it sticks out too far..

I've just seen a PRS4 switch on ebay, it's for sale with the panel and the way it's held in place is different to mine. it's held in place with a spring clip same as the PRS3, so maybe the PRS3 would be a good substitute???

Hi John,

This is like/similar to the knob Alan has used. Hope it might be of some use to you.
