Hi John,

From memory it’s a straightforward if slightly awkward job. Getting at the nuts that hold the silencer to its bracket can be a challenge as they are close to the ground! If you have a bike lift so much the better. As the captive bolts sometimes rotate in their housing it’s probably easiest to loosen the silencer to pipe clamp first then remove the pillion footrest, which should release the silencer bracket. At this point some jiggling will be required but the silencer should come off.  Once you have the old silencer off and on the bench it will be easier to remove the bracket from the silencer, clean it, judge whether replacement nuts and bolts are needed and fit it to the new silencer.

Assembly is then the reverse! I didn’t use any appropriate ‘goo’ on the joint with the pipe but a little may stop the almost inevitable leak!

Hope that’s clear.

D7/14 hybrid (4 speed with D7 crank etc.) on the road, D10 Bushman awaiting rebuilding.
