After much research I believe that the Headlamp Switch for my 1953 D1 with Lucas Electrics should be a PRS4.   It seems that replica PRS4 switches are not being manufactured so you have to hope that a used or NOS appears on Ebay.   New replica PRS8 switches are readily available.   I don't know what the differences between the two switches are.    Can anyone tell me if a PRS8 switch can be used on my Lucas D1 ?

Hi John,

I can’t say whether the PRS8 switch would fit for certain but I do think it would be a problem. The PRS4 switch has a long barrel which is needed to fit into the switch panel and be long enough to go into the headlamp shell so that the wires don’t foul the shell. I think the PRS8 switch would have the wires fouling the shell.

Sorry but I’ve just been lucky enough to get one from e-bay, all but at a price.. I’m still short of the knob.. I’d been wondering about the PRS8 switch myself, although I don’t know for sure if you could fit it or not, hopefully someone can give you more help 🙂

Regards,

Alan.
