hi has anyone had this problem my d7 starts ok and lights work onemergency switch but backfires runs lumpy and keeps sparking at the points when you switch over to standard ignition i would really apreciate any help with this problem thanks .

Hi Joe.
Quite an odd problem. I have had a look at the wiring diagram in the instructions manual in the Tech Tips section.
The wiring of a dual switch D7 is quite complex with regard to the ignition. When in the E position it uses the lighting coil of the generator for the ignition.
The manual also states that the headlamp will not work with the ignition switch in the E position.
I wonder if someone has rewired it incorrectly at some time in the past.
It would probably be a good idea to thoroughly check the wiring against the diagram.
That my best thought at the moment.

hi mike thanks i think i'll try everything someone i know has asked me to check if i havethe correct flywheel fitted with ignition coils for the d7 model ?

It sounds like you are really starting on "normal" then switching over to "emg"

Has the fault just occurred, or was it like that when purchased

Could be the switch wiring, but can the switch be fitted to the shell the wrong way round?.
