Hi

Looking for advice regarding a headlight reflector for a d1/3. Does anyone have any experience of refinishing (resilvering) the surface or is it best to sent it away?

Thanks

Resilvering a headlight reflector isn’t a diy job. A standard 5-3/4” light unit will fit, and can be sourced in BPF or H4 styles. It’s possible to carefully remove the glass from a new unit and reuse your original Wipac glass if you have one.

It depends whether your priorities lie in absolute originality, minimum expenditure or maximum light output as to which way you jump.

It's a professional job to re silver a reflector, often the condition of the does not allow re finishing.

I have been able to re finish one in poor condition with kitchen foil, yes of course the finish is not so good but I felt it was acceptable.

Thanks for the replies.

It would be nice to restore the original.

Been quoted £72+vat + postage. About £90 all in.

Can anyone recommend a company or does this sound about right price wise?

Thanks

What Glen said just get a new one. I'm using 'British Pre-Focus Miller Headlamp 5 3/4"' from Vehicle Wiring Products. Needed a bit of tweaking to make fit, I put some rubber beading around inside the rim to make it fit.

I tried the tinfoil trick with little luck, unfortunately. I wondered at the time about chroming? Mibbe cheaper? Heat issues? I ended up getting a good used original from Paul Goff. Cheap 🙂
