Hi Munchkin

be careful when buying your chain as 420 chain is often sold as bieng suitable for bantam's and it is, if you have "420" sprockets but, standard bantam chain is not 420 . I have found this bloke to be a good source and he understands bantam chain.

Munchkin, I've done the chain & sprockets on my D1. I used M5 Allen bolts with washers and Nylok nuts.

Its a damn lot easier than re-rivetting. The chain length is 117 links for the plunger model.

The sprockets: front 15 tooth, rear 47 tooth. Wemoto can supply both chain and sprockets.

I don't want to confuse things, but what I did was to use sprockets suitable for fitting a 420 chain.

This means you can get a chain from any bike shop ( my chain is a DID ). T&G do the sprockets

and the 420 chain.

Hope this helps.

So riveting has been mentioned several times in this thread Are we talking cold riveting or using heat?

Thanks Mick. Looks like I have the choice of hot or cold riveting.

Hi all, ( munchkin)

Noticed this thread was from way back in the summer. Munchkin, how did you get on with the sprocket replacement.

Since you first posted back in August I have replaced the chain and sprockets on the D7, they cost me less than £50 from a recommended ebay site. Got my D1 chain and sprockets from Rex Caunt for about the same price.

My D1 wheel, like yours  had a riveted 9 hole sprocket, I filed/ ground and knocked out the rivets, then used stainless steel M4 bolts with nyloc nuts to fasten the sprocket back on the wheel again. Unlike your D1, my D1 has the immense power of a D5 175cc engine.

1000 miles since I changed the chain and sprockets, still going strong, so I think bolting is as good as riveting....
