Cheers Nick,

what a difference a bit of hard work and a coat of paint makes.. Thanks for taking the time to do the photo’s and posting them 🙂

I’m still certain there was beading, I saw it labelled and it had a part number on a Lucas diagram. Of course I can’t find it right now.. to me a rubber bead is needed to stop water getting into the headlamp shell.

Below is a diagram I did find, doesn’t point the beading out but does mention it in the print.. Number 29, beading for instrument panel 🙂

HowD1 posted this photo a while back, don’t know how to link his topic..the bike is supposed to be original and untouched.

Hi

Looks good with the beading/ rubber gasket. there must be something on the market we can use. Theres now quite a few of us with Lucas D1's. I'm sure once the word gets round, something will surface....

Before any confirmed sinophobes chime in - yes it's chinese, so what?

A bit of lateral thinking and browsing brings up a few options, including this ** Please log in to view **

Have a search for flexible plastic (or rubber) trim.

Thanks Sunny,

I was thinking along those lines, or perhaps the rubber gaskets from double glazing and door units.

Sorry Cocorico,

I couldn't get your link, to link, it's all in french

My headlamp panel seal arrived today. It seems to be just the job. It looks right, seems resilient enough, fitted onto the panel with ease pushing firmly on, even shaped easily round the sharp bend on the end of the panel. Obviously I can’t say what it would like long term but seems just the job to me.

I’m adding some photo’s, what I’ve done is only a test fit, the headlamp needs painting..

Nice touch, will get some for my old D1. Looks like it could have many uses.

Cheers

Keep up the lateral thinking - it's what's needed for 60 year old bikes. thumbs-up

Hi Alan, these keep appearing just now but this one has a bracket.... maybe worth asking the seller for some good pics for reference??

Hi Stewart,

thanks, but I think you forgot the link..

I've seen one or two headlamp brackets come up on ebay, but can't tell from the photo's whether they are Lucas type or not ??

Regards,

Alan.

Unfortunately that’s not a Lucas headlight so it’ll be the wrong bracket..

thanks for the thought though, appreciated 🙂

In the 60’s I remember the MOD trying to sell those bikes off, they were almost giving them away, now they’re classed as classics.. lol

later the AA we’re selling off their sidecar outfits, dirt cheap once again..

You’re right, buy with caution 🙂

cheers,

Alan.
