What is the difference between D1 standard and competition handlebars?

I'm asking because I can't get standard bars anywhere but Draganfly have competition bars.

Hi Jim, if I remember correctly(?) the comp bars have threaded  holes on the left hand side for the valve compressor.  Someone else may know better... I'm presuming that you want new bars rather than used, as there are often used ones on eBay?

You will find just about everything you could ever want on the Forum via the FAQs and technical sections;  HERE and  HERE.  You'll find that everything has been covered before- at least twice! 🙂  So have a good look around and you'l likely find plenty of info there already to get you started. If you get stuck  - just ask.   It makes your life much easier when searching to use Google and the template "your query bantam forum " e.g. "fuel mix bantam forum” you'll get much more focused results than using the Forum's internal search engine. And, of course, if you can't find it in the mountain of info, just ask and some of our very helpful and knowledgeable members will be only too happy to give advice. If you join the Club it opens up the Members' Area and a number of suppliers offer discounts for Club Members.  Photos are always welcome and we all like to have a gander at each other's bikes. They are also very handy for diagnosing problems. There is a 1MB size limit for images. More info HERE

Have a really good nose around the forum and enjoy yourself. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Good Luck!

All the best,

Stewart

Hi Stewart & Sunny, Thanks for your replies. This might sound like sacrilege, but I want the handlebars for a C11 that I'm currently restoring. The C11 bars were very close to the D1 standard Bantam. There is a dealer in Australia who has a handlebar listed as a replacement for all three (C11, D1 standard & competition). The photo looks like a D1 standard. Unfortunately, they're out of stock! I will contact Draganfly and ask them what the difference is between their competition bar, which is in stock, and their standard bar, which is out of stock. If you're right, Sunny, about the different height then I don't want the competition bar.

Now I'd better redeem myself and tell you about my future Bantam projects.

The first one is a 1949 D1 which my father bought new. In the mid 60's he decided he wanted rear suspension so he got a plunger bike and put his good engine and a few other bits on it. I still have that bike plus all his original bits  so it will be pretty easy to get it back to its original 1949 condition.

When I was a teenager I collected a lot of Bantam parts and I put together a D3 frame with a D5 engine, C11 forks and a few other modifications. That's another project to get it back to more original specs.

Thanks again for your help.

Jim

Hi Jim,

Worth sharing that I had real problems matching pattern Control Levers and Pivot bolts for an original D1 lug welded set of bars I had inherited for my build. I won't name and shame the online supplier, but having purchased these at different times they didn't fit, and were the wrong pitch thread !

I ended up purchasing bars that looked right, but purposely without the welded lugs for Control Levers. These were a C15 pattern, which allowed me to fit some pattern control levers, (complete with pivot bolts) pre drilled for mirrors.

The standard brake cable fitted fine, clutch & throttle cables needed bespoke longer cables made up - I sent Venhill Enginering, ( a UK control cable specialist) in Dorking Surrey standard cables, and they made up what I needed from my request.

Regards

Paul
