Hello everyone, I have searched the best I can for an answer for my issue however havent been able to find one so apologies if I have overlooked it somewhere.

Firstly thanks to Tim the dating officer I now have a number for my 35 year old project being a 1960 D1 plunder with direct lighting (I was going to fit a battery however the carrier I have doesnt fit the bike).

The question I have relates to the light switch and the daigram on page 80 of the Haynes manual.

I bought a replacement 9 pin switch from Feked as the lamp/switch I had was wrong.

I wired the switch with the pins facing up at me and with the switch facing down as it would be installed however the lights dont work. Having fitted my home made loom I get continuity to earth and lights etc with a multimeter also get output from the lighting coils with both multimeter and a bulb across the earth and lighting coils pins. I have checked both bulbs and they are fine.

I'm thinking it's either me not understanding the diagram or the switch. Any advice would be wonderful as always.

Kindest regards. Andrew

Hi Andrew.
Just to be sure that you're switch orientation is correct I have attached a picture of the pins of a 9 pin switch pushed though a piece of card.
I am not sure what is in the Haynes manual.

Thanks mikef that’s very useful. So if my orientation is correct then the dark red will attach to post 7 looking at page 80 in Haynes.

Tantalisingly close to getting the machine to the most complete state since I’ve had it at least.

Kindest regards. Andrew

Hi Andrew.
I don't have the Haynes manual, but looking at a direct lighting circuit diagram of Bantam direct lighting circuit from BSA, yes the dark red wire from the generator will connect to pin 7 of the switch. Pin 8 of the switch would be the output to the dip switch. This will then provide power to the headlight circuit.
The diagram that I am working from uses the Wipac 1452 generator.
I only have a printed copy of the diagram, I could possibly scan it and post it if you think that it would help.
Mike.

Have a look in the Members' Area, Andrew. There are loads of relevant wiring diagrams there.

Yes, just looked in the members area. The diagram that uses the 9 pin switch is labeled "D1/D3 AC wiring from 55-Aug.
Its in the members area under Wipac wiring diagrams in the technical section.
