hi there my d7 has a 626 carb with cable and lever choke sounds a bit silly,but is choke on when cable is operated under tension or when cable is slack bike seems to run the same both ways?

Hi Geoffrey.
The choke is on when the cable is slack, the choke slide should be pushed down by the spring and restrict the airflow.
When the cable is tight the choke slide is lifted thus removing the restriction.
