Hello all you Geordies, Mackems, Smoggies, Monkey Hangers, Hillbillies, Sand Dancers, etc.! As I mentioned briefly a couple of days ago I have offered my assistance as Area Rep for the County Durham and Cleveland area. Ray Leggett sent me some of the information I needed via snail mail earlier this week and it arrived today.

I'm not one for 'angin' about so I have entered all of the addresses of the members in the area into a clever little website that finds the geographic midpoint, and that midpoint is (drumroll!..........) Station Rd, West Cornforth, County Durham DL17. I have had a look on Google maps and found a few pubs nearby that may prove a good meeting place for monthly meetings and such. However, I am personally not familiar with any of them. If any one knows any nice pubs in the area, within abut 3 miles of Cornforth please let me know. Hopefully I will have a drive down there tomorrow to have a look at some of them and speak to the owners to make sure they don't mind a gang of nutters coming in every month covered in grease and petroil talking about motorbikes.

I shall report back tomorrow and provided a suitable venue is found will schedule a first meeting.

As a final note, could people let me know via this topic, or PM if there are any days they are strongly opposed to meeting on, or if they would rather the meetings be bi-monthly, weekly, fortnightly etc.

Thanks, I look forward to meeting you all soon! tip-my-hatcheers

That sounds like a good plan. I would rather it not be on a Friday either, or a Monday but as far as I'm concerned any other day is fine by me. I also agree that it shouldn't be any others in W/Cornforth, I had a look at a lot of them after coming to see you the other day and they were a little run down to put it nicely. We may have to move further away from the central point but I will try my best to make it easily accessible for as many people as possible, might have to start working on travel time not distance alone...

I extended the search area slightly but unfortunately can't find anything suitable. Either the car park is too small, or non-existent, or the owners have events on every night that mean we wouldn't be able to sit together and have a drink. The only place that is close enough to the mid-point (7 minutes South), looks nice, has a big enough car park and would be able to accommodate everyone (not on a Monday though because that's darts night) is the Square and compass.

So there you have it folks, the place is set:

The Square & Compass

7 The Green,

Bishop Middleham,

West Cornforth

Ferryhill

DL17 9JQ

I will provisionally set the day and time to the first Wednesday of the month at 19:00. I will send out some emails and letters to the members that don't use the forum and hopefully our first meeting will be Wednesday 6th of March. I will update this page if anything changes.

Let me know if any one has any issues.

Phil cheers

Just noticed that the address you have listed above has the wrong village name, it`s West Cornforth not Bishop Middleham

When i got there i had trouble forcing my way through all the rowdy bantam owners to get to the bar, there must have been 40 or 50, hope the next one is a bit quieter, i did manage a brief chat with tgm though....

It was mental! Didn't catch anyone's names (except Bob) and there was no drink left at the bar by the time I finally pushed my way to the front. rofl
