Where did you get the rev counter from ?

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong

I still can't get mine to read right.  I've 4 wraps  around the HT lead and every setting seems to over read.  It is close to the plug cap - but I don't think it will make a difference.

Hmmm - got to think.

IMG_9768.JPGThank you both - my ignition is a wasted spark, so it's 2 per revolution.

The instructions are above- it says 02 is once per revolution. So I'd have thought 01 was 2 per 1 revolution - but it still seems to be reading high.

I've just checked again and maybe it's right ?

it seems to say it ticks over at about 1200 revs - whereas we all had a listen up at Rivington and the consensus was that it wasn't running that high.

So I guess either the collective ear or the rev counter is a bit faulty 😊

I have to admit I have a really slow tickover on mine and I think I did read in the workshop manual that kickover ( yes thats Kick and not tick) speed was 1000rpm
so could be correct
the crunch is what does it read at over 40 mph in top gear

You can still find old mechanical rev counters that have a rubber end you push against any revolving part, you time it for one minute and read off the vernier scale. Using one of those would give a very good idea to start with. I could lend you mine Stephen if you wish. I also have an electronic one.

I doubt I could kick any bike over at a thousand revs!

Most mains electric motors, capacitor start, are rated at 1425 revs, just to give an idea of what a thousand is like.

Four now on the road and at least several in bits.

Page G10 of the Bsa D14 workshop manual

“at kick-over i.e. approximately 1000rpm”

I bought one of these a few years ago a laser tach...more expensive than this one but looks the same...very accurate...comes supplied with reflector discs that you stick on any rotating part.

It would confirm if your other device is correct or not.

One from a UK seller.

They are handy for use on diesel engines vehicles.

Do you have a petrol engined car to hook it up to...

Those instructions are clear as mud.

Mine say.

01 fires twice per revolution.

02 fire once per rev

03 every other rev.
