Hello,

How do i get the original frame number to match the reg and engine number?

I'm restoring a D3 and i had no frame number on the head stock. Is there a way of getting the frame number and then registering it with the DVLA to get it on the road?

Engine Number: B D3B 23826

Reg Number: UDD 904

Thanks

Your a very fortunate man. Early machines were listed in engine number order until around 54, then frame number. Yours is a 57, so was listed in frame number order with the engines allocated fairly randomly. I have had a quick run through the records and found yours within 20 minutes or so, which is really quick!

Engine BD3B 23826 was attached to frame number CD3 16541 and it left the factory on the 25th April 1957 and was sent to S.J.Fair Motors in Bristol.

Current bikes......1958 D5, a 75 Honda CD175, a 79 Honda NC50 Express (wife's), a 67 Raleigh Runabout and a 80 Puch Maxi, and a 77 Suzuki GT250 being rebuilt. I have a 74 Kawasaki KH400 in the queue, along with a 78 Honda CB125S and a 1980 Honda CB400N.  I currently ride a 1982 Kawasaki Z250.

Wow Thanks!

So that would also tie in with the number plate UDD 904?. I though a UDD was Bristol area? or Gloucester? and a D3 bantam.

How do i now get the required paper work for registering it?

Also will it need a look over (MOT) before i get in on the road for the 1st time??

I can't help thinking that you'll need to be able to prove your frame number before you can register it. Ken.

two B175s and a CB360

I have no information on the registration number you have, other than DD is Gloucestershire. The frame will have to have a number on it, the frame is the master and without a number DVLA will issue you with a chassis number of their own which you would have to get stamped on the frame. The full procedure for getting your bike registered is shown here -

If you have no documentary evidence of the link between the frame and the registration number, then you will have to apply for an age related plate. Its all explained in the link... Your frame number should be on the headstock, but in case its been reframed with an earlier or later frame, have a look on the front engine mount too

Did you look elsewhere for your frame number  ? . I ask because mine was found on the nearside of the frame just below the front engine mountings.

Richard.
