Hi fellas, as I said in my introduction I have acquired a Bantam frame, guards and wheels as well as an engine. I hope to start accumulating parts to then begin the restoration. I have no knowledge about Bantams.
The frame is a plunger type with the number BD2S 35083 which I believe would date it at 1955? What would the model designation be?
The engine I was given has the number 49197YD, which if I am correct would make it from 1950 and not be suitable for the frame?
Is it possible to get an engine to suit the frame?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been through the early records and there are two 35083 frames, one sent to Sidney in 1950 but would have been YD1s not BD2s. The other one which I think is yours, was sent to a shipping agent Scholfield Goodman in September 1954 so could conceivably have been sent anywhere. Both were sprung frame models. The original engine for this one would have been BD3 5950, its a D3.
Engine 49197 YD is from March 1951 and was sent to Matlock in Perth. It was originally in frame YD 52823 which was a rigid D1

A 1978 Honda CB125S on the road and I currently ride a 2011 Harley Davidson 883 Sportster. I might have just bought another Bantam...….
