Hello

Could anyone tell me if a d3 barrell will run on a d1 motor. The strokes the same and the barrell fits. With a d3 150cc piston ofcourse.

Hello Haddy,

D3 barrel with fit on the last reincarnation D1 crankcase,as they have the same stud spacing.

Cornish Rooster, top poster on here, runs a D1-D3 hybrid engine.

Looks promising! Have you also got the piston? Are you fitting a D3 head too?

Put some outrigger wheels on the leg-shield frame and you could ride with confidence on an ice-rink,haha.

Remove the rust from the fork legs(see if they`re salvageable), replace the four phos-bronze bushes and bottom seals.Grease her up,stick some gaiters on and you`re sorted there...you`ll see if the fork springs are ok when you strip it.

Rear springer may have a broken plunger column... ** Please log in to view ** ...Part no 90-4121....or parts missing/badly worn....looking at the photo?Maybe it`s just the camera angle/trick of the light?

Have you got springs for the seat, front&rear mudguard stays, chainguard, toolbox, rear rack, brake rod,carb,exhaust/silencer etc?

Nice work Haddy, you`ve been busy. Those spare Amal concentrics come in handy don`t they.I quite fancy a side-valve next.

I haven`t done it myself...yet....but heard it suggested that the C10/11/12?(can`t remember which), front brake is a good replacement mod for the smaller Bantams.

Sounds like you`re halfway there if you`ve got the flywheel off ok.Not missing any crankcase screws and being careful removing the two hollow dowels is next then?.Hope she pops apart for you.

The one missing from the jet chamber (the angled one) is a blanking screw which masks access to the drilling into the float chamber. The two on top of the float chamber and the others are probably BA. Best thing to do is to get a thread gauge and a copy of Zeus Tables, you may need them for other parts of the bike.

Haddy,

Not casting nasturtiums on Greenacre`s helpful post, but if you want I can look out a screw of the correct thread type and pop it in the post to Oz for you? AU$5.58 for a piddling screw is daylight robbery, haha.Just cover only my postage through paypal when you receive it and are happy...job done.If I can find a fibre washer I`ll add that too...or I can wrap the top part of screw with PTFE tape(in the correct DOT),all ready to fit with a small stainless flat washer I`ll also chuck in.

Will be properly checked against my own D1 carb.

Let me know.

Thanks Blue

Thats very decent of you, i would accept your offer in a heartbeat but i cancelled my Paypal acc as i was getting bogus emails and $10 went missing from my bank acc. The bank said it was more likely ebay. Now that i know its just a blanking screw and not a mixture needle i will sort it easy enough. Thanks for your kind offer.

Hi Haddy,

Hope paypal or your bank reimbursed you.

Someone deposited sterling equiv of AU$1,200 into my paypal account 6 yrs ago.I notified paypal in a roundabout subtle way,not exactly spelling it out,but covering myself....and sat back waiting for my anticipated spending spree, haha. Unfortunately after 3 months, their system removed it. Annoyingly tantalising it was for those three months.

Friend had a few hundred quid illegally removed via paypal at a similar time, she was with Barclays and I was there when she rang them and they said they had 500 staff working on online fraud! My mind boggled.I wonder how many they employ for that work now.

Both these happened via ebay!

Anyway, forget the postage(I was being a mean beggar,haha)...if you get stuck, just send me your address via the PM on this good site and I`ll pop one in the post.

Hello

Split the engine today took a bit.The book says 15 screws on one side and one on the other.I could only find 13 and when it would not split looked for the other 3. Finaly got it split without damaging the flange no screwdrivers and theres 13 screws. Had no head barrell on when i got it so i dont know history its a bit of a mess as you can see but the big end and mains are good enough.

That "serated"  "ratchet" washer around the crank shaft looks a bit odd?[Permission to view this image is denied]

Not sure about the number of screws, never counted them to be honest but that serrated washer is the oil thrower. It's job is to throw oil mist at the main bearing.

Good progress...there are no flies on you Haddy 😉 Proper vintage tool for the job too.

Hope the oil fan is not too badly rusted.Amazing that the the big-end survived.

Hello

I have stripped the d1 and there wasnt any crank shaft shims spacers. Any advice as im in the dark like the shims.

Looks like a new bigend has been pressed in hope he did a better job than the cover plate.

Hello Haddy, I have moved all your questions so far into the 'Restorations' section under one name, that way it is easier to search / follow your restoration.

As for the crank shims, this has been covered many times before. If you use the search facility you should find the answers.

Alternatively, type "crank shims" site:bsabantamclub.com/forum into your search engine and you will see how many answers there are!

Are you saying that you have read all of the previous posts on the subject without finding any answers to your question? There are at least 10 answers on the first page of the search engine query I gave you (I use Google).
