Hi all. Well I've started the restoration of my '55 D1, sorry there are no before and after shots (too preoccupied in prep). The frame was stripped the hard way with drill and wire brush, hubs and fork yolks sent to the blasters, the forks are there as I write, the front mudguard is NOS and is the colour I decided on for the bike. rear m/g is repro. New bearings  and waiting for the paint to cure before I have the wheels done, Decided on stainless rims and spokes. Items on order are: H/lamp nacelle, tool box, plunger covers, recon fork sliders, rear n/plate,m/g stays. I've not mentioned the tank as this is the only thing I am not attempting,---having that done professionally. Got to look at the engine but that can wait a while.I'll keep you updated on progress as it happens with photos if I don't forget!!

You are off to a good start, i will be watching to see how you get on with it.

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong

Looks great so far, Love the Pastel green.

1950 D1 plunger for daily use, Concourse 1948 D1 rigid, Black 1953 D1 plunger nearly done and a 1949 rigid D1 survivor.

Hi all. The brightwork is here. Opted for stainless rims and spokes, the fork sliders are recons (very fair price) a heck of a lot cheaper than some. Lots more bits on order.

Hi.This photo  is also in the D1/3/5/7 section but as it is part of the restoration I thought I'd include it here. Having now reset the position of the tube (saddle mounting) The end result is better than I thought it would turn out. The radius of the arch follows the rim more evenly, and with the wheel set in  position the flare is not accentuated too much. All I need now is to extend the bottom front of the guard and get the tube welded/brazed in position. Little bit more fettling and off to the paint shop. The second photo shows the position of the tube along side the "old" one.[Permission to view this image is denied]

Congratulations on your perseverance! - Do you think it might be a good idea to also share your experience and photos with the suppliers, so that they can consider 'improving' their product? dunno

Hi all, An update on my restoration. New springs& recon sliders, waiting for top scrolls. New plunger columns and covers (NOS). All the tinware has been to the blasters, all in paint and lacquered. The mudguards will be started when I make room once the rebuild starts!! Have modified the foreign rear m/g and will take my time with that, I can set it up on my '53 and double check on the new bike as it progresses. Slow but sure wins the race you know.

regards  Graham.

PS. To Cocorico: have passed on the info to the supplier and has been taken on board.[Permission to view this image is denied]

Hi All. After no offers of a pair of springs, I decided to go out and buy a full set "off the shelf". Duly returned and this pm set about fitting them. The result is:-The bike is freestanding (well on one wheel and an old stand!). Next step is assembling the front end over the next couple of days, its been stood for so long nowI thought I'd better make a move. Next up a full set of bolts, nuts etc..., and will have them zinc coated.
